At the Copernicus Hospital in Łódź, there is a shortage of anesthesiologists and there is no one to cover the roster

The problems with the cast at the Copernicus Trauma Hospital in Łódź have been discussed for a long time. Doctors alert that it lacks anesthesiologists, which results in closing operating theaters or canceling procedures, and above all, there is no one to pay for the roster. There is a need to increase the employment of this type of specialists. According to the management, the “anaesthesiologists’ wage demands” stand in the way, says Dziennik Łódzki.

According to anaesthesiologists, there are problems reported by the Ministry of Health. Due to the small number of doctors on duty, the patients are not guaranteed continuity in treatment. Which makes it impossible to work safely in such a place. It happened that one of the patients woke up during the operation.

At the moment, the department employs 17 specialists and as many residents, of which 8 are on duty. Meanwhile, there are 20 anesthesia stations, 4 post-anesthesia supervision rooms and 19 intensive care stations to bet.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of a decent salary, doctors go to other medical facilities, and no new ones come to replace them. Anesthesiologists want a ward check so that they can prove all the shortcomings they’ve been reporting for months.

The case was also submitted to the Ministry of Health, which applied to the National Health Fund in Łódź with a request for “an assessment of the situation within the scope of the NFZ competence”. The national consultant in the field of anesthesiology and intensive care is also to check whether the ward maintains the organizational standards of patient care – we read in Dziennik Łódzki.

The hospital’s promotion department explains that the main problem is the finances related to the salaries of full-time anesthesiologists.

However, the Łódź Medical Council has reservations about these contracts with contract doctors, accusing the director of actions contrary to the requirements of the Ministry of Health and health care standards. The presidium has even taken a position on this matter and is waiting for explanations from the hospital management – reports Dziennik Łódzki.
