Following Thursday’s statement by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) that AstraZenca against COVID-19 is safe and effectively protects against the disease caused by the coronavirus, more countries have decided to suspend the use of this preparation.

AstraZeneca – no more vaccinations

They have already done so France, Germany and Italy to resume vaccination with AstraZenecą on Friday. On this day, the preparation will start to be administered again in Portugal.

Spain has announced a similar decision, but the AstraZeneca vaccine will not come back into use until Wednesday. The Netherlands is also to resume vaccination with this preparation next week.

Lithuania and Latvia, as well as Cyprus and Bulgaria have also announced the resumption of AstraZeneka vaccinations on Friday.

AstraZeneca – Not all countries are resuming immunization

The decision to restore vaccinations with AstraZeneca’s preparation will not yet be taken by the health authorities of Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

“We need a few days to analyze the EMA’s opinion and decide whether to continue with AstraZeneca,” said Swedish Public Health Director Johan Carlson.

Camilla Stoltenberg, the head of the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, expressed a similar opinion. Only next week will Denmark respond to the EMA’s opinion on AstraZeneka.

The Irish health authorities are to decide on the vaccine on Friday.

The governments of Austria, Iceland, Romania, Estonia, Slovenia and Luxembourg, which suspended its use, and Indonesia and Thailand, which postponed vaccination with this preparation on March 15, have not yet announced their plans for AstraZeneca.
