The official launch of the association for patients with cardiological diseases was announced on Friday during an educational meeting organized by the Heart for Arrhythmia Foundation.
The inaugural meeting, which took place on April 4 at the Staszic Palace in Warsaw, was attended by outstanding Polish specialists in the field of cardiology, who talked about the most common cardiac arrhythmias, treatments available in Poland and circumstances that may indicate the existence of cardiological problems.
The special guest of the meeting was actress Izabela Kuna, who shared her personal experiences in this field with the audience.
The event was attended by 64 people, and 44 of them declared their willingness to belong to the newly created association, which aims to bring together patients and all people interested in the current state of knowledge about cardiac arrhythmias and modern methods of diagnosis and treatment of these ailments. According to the hosts of the meeting, it is the first association in Poland that enables patients with cardiac arrhythmia to have a real influence on decisions in this area of healthcare.
Such associations operate in Europe and around the world, and are an equal partner in discussions about the health care system, how to treat and which therapeutic methods to choose – emphasized prof. Łukasz Szumowski, one of the speakers.
Arrhythmias are a broad group of conditions characterized by an irregular heartbeat, ranging from mild and unresponsive cases to severe conditions that can lead to cardiac arrest.
One of the most common arrhythmias is atrial fibrillation, to which patients over 65 are particularly at risk.
The methods of treating cardiac arrhythmias include the use of anticoagulants, implanting cardiac pacemakers or defibrillators, and performing ablation. The methods of therapy and diagnosis are constantly modernized in order to provide more and more patients with effective and quick disease detection and effective treatment. (PAP)
