What exactly is Asmenol and what is it used for? In short, it is a drug that is not only supposed to be anti-inflammatory, but its task is also to prevent bronchospasm. It is very often chosen as an adjuvant in the treatment of acute asthma attacks. According to specialists and patients, the drug works after the first dose.
Asmenol is an agent whose main task is to prevent bronchospasms, which is why it is very often included among the drugs taken permanently in the constant treatment of asthma. The agent also has an anti-inflammatory effect. Asmenol can be used as the main drug in treatment, but also as a supplement, especially in diagnosed asthma.
Asmenol – what it contains
Asmenol comes in the form of chewable tablets that contain montelukast. It is available in packs of 28 and is a prescription drug. The manufacturer of the drug is Polpharma. The active substance in this medicine, montelukast, is part of a group of anti-inflammatory components called leukotriene receptor antagonists. The active substance of the drug has an inhibitory effect and prevents the activation of leukotriene receptors, which are in the upper respiratory tract. Thanks to this reaction, the vessels in the bronchial mucosa expand, which minimizes the risk of edema, bronchospasm or mucus secretion. The preparation also soothes the developing inflammation, for example in the form of irritation or swelling, and additionally dilates the bronchi, which in turn has a positive effect on the work of the lungs. Asmenol reduces the risk of bronchospasm not only during the disease state, but also after increased physical exertion.
Asmenol – how it works
The drug is used not only for the treatment of mild to moderate severe bronchial asthma, but also for its prevention when bronchospasm is triggered by intense exercise. The preparation can be used instead of inhaled corticosteroids, for example in patients aged 2 to 14 years, because it is in the form of chewable tablets, it can be used in younger children. It is also recommended for older people who cannot or cannot tolerate the inhalation method. Asmenol is also recommended by allergists in acute conditions of nasal mucositis or seasonal allergic rhinitis.
Of course, as in any treatment, Asmenol may cause side effects, for example, it must not be used in patients who are allergic to any component of the drug. Allergists and drug manufacturers warn against taking the drug during an acute asthma attack. That is why it is so important that you always carry your inhaler with you, with an immediate-acting bronchodilator. It is very important to know that Asmenol is not a substitute for oral or inhaled corticosteroids. When starting treatment with the drug, you must not stop taking inhaled corticosteroids or tablets, and do not reduce the doses of drugs already used. If symptoms such as skin infiltrates, rash, cardiac disorders, or any neurological disorders appear, consult your doctor immediately. The preparation should not be administered to children under 2 years of age. Asmenol is a drug that is absorbed very quickly and works within minutes of taking the first dose.
Before use, read the leaflet, which contains indications, contraindications, data on side effects and dosage as well as information on the use of the medicinal product, or consult your doctor or pharmacist, as each drug used improperly is a threat to your life or health.
