It is also called Indian ginseng and Withania somnolence. There are numerous cultivations of this plant in India, as they are its country of origin. Despite this, we can also meet it in the south-eastern part of Europe, Africa (especially in Egypt), Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and Sri Lanka.

Indian ginseng is a shrub reaching about 150 cm in height. Its roots and fruit are mainly used in medicine.

Ashwagandha composition. What properties does it have?

This plant contains withanolides, i.e. active substances that have anti-cancer and antibacterial properties. Except that:

  • They have an antioxidant (antioxidant) effect, i.e. they prevent the formation of free radicals,
  • They lower blood pressure,
  • They have a strong detoxifying effect,
  • They have an anti-stress and antidepressant effect on the body,
  • They protect against stomach ulcers,
  • They prevent Alzheimer’s disease,
  • They have a positive effect on the processes of remembering and associating.

Witani roots also contain alkaloids, phenolic acids, fisterols and coumarins. The composition of this plant is also rich in large amounts of iron, which is why it affects the growth of erythrocytes, white blood cells and hemoglobin.

It is available on the market in the form of fragments and capsules. Effective doses are nearly 500 mg per day. Manufacturers usually recommend taking one tablet twice a day before meals. To achieve results, you need to take Ashwagandha for a minimum of several weeks. Gradually, but long-term, it will affect the body.
