Aruncus – herb for outdoor use
Aruncus is a herbaceous perennial that forms a sprawling bush with long inflorescences in summer. In appearance, it looks more like a shrub, rather than grass. It looks smart and is therefore used to decorate the garden.
What does the aruncus plant look like
The bush blooms in the first half of summer, spreading a tart aroma and attracting a lot of insects. The seeds ripen in early autumn.
Aruncus white inflorescences look very elegant
Plant characteristics:
- superficial, highly branched root system;
- upright strong stems;
- beautiful openwork foliage of bright green color;
- long peduncles;
- lush inflorescences of white or beige.
The flower looks good as a tapeworm. It can also be used in group plantings. But keep in mind that the width of the bush can reach 1-1,2 m, height – 1,3-1,5 m.
This plant thrives best in the shade; in the sun, the leaves begin to turn yellow and dry. This perennial is not at all picky about the composition of the soil, the main thing is that it always be sufficiently moist. Drought is detrimental to the plant. In early spring and during the flowering period, it needs organic fertilizing.
Fading inflorescences must be removed in a timely manner.
In autumn, it is necessary to cut the stems at a height of 5 cm from the ground. For the winter, it is advisable to mulch the bush with foliage or peat.
Perennial easily tolerates even severe frosts. The plant is resistant to diseases, but sometimes it can suffer from pest infestations. In this case, regular spraying with burdock broth helps.
The plant reproduces well by seeds, although not all ovaries are pollinated. It is advisable to carefully cut the faded inflorescences into a paper bag so as not to lose small seeds that look like dust. In southern regions, seeds can be sown directly into open ground. If the spring is cold, it is better to grow seedlings.
When the first leaves appear, the seedlings can be dived into separate pots or into a large box at a distance of 15 cm from each other. The next year, seedlings can be planted in a permanent place. Then replanting the plant is not worth it, since the roots grow strongly and grow stiff.
Upon reaching 3-4 years of age, the bush begins to bloom
Vegetative reproduction allows you to get full-fledged plants in one year, which will immediately begin to bloom. To do this, in early spring, you need to divide the rhizome into parts with a sharp ax so that on each division there are 2 buds and a sufficient number of thin roots. The wounds must be covered with ash. Delenki need to be immediately dug in a new place so as not to dry out the roots.
Among herbaceous plants for open ground, aruncus occupy a special place. Their maintenance is minimal, so they are suitable for growing even by inexperienced gardeners.
