Arugula not only for those on a diet. – Dietetics – Articles |

I am talking about arugula – a slightly nutty aroma, a bitter taste that breaks through and a buttery sensation in the mouth immediately after consumption. These are the features that lovers of this variety of lettuce love. Fortunately, it is more and more popular – although it comes from Mediterranean countries, it can also be grown in Poland.

1. It is perfect for weight loss

Like any lettuce, it contains a lot of water and is therefore low in calories, 20 g of leaves equals 5 kcal. It also contains dietary fiber, which swells in the stomach and makes you feel full.

2. It improves the digestibility of products

We should add rocket, especially to hard-to-digest dishes, such as fatty meats and frying.

The rocket is sprinkled with harmful substances that protect it from spoilage and pests. Therefore, before consumption, it should be thoroughly washed under running water.

3. It has a bactericidal effect

The bacterium-killing effect of the rocket is due to the sulfuric amino acids that give it its sharp taste. It should be consumed especially by people with low immunity.

4. Protects against cancer

This property is due to compounds called glucosinolates, which are converted into isothiocyanates in the body. It is isothiocyanins that are involved in the regulation of the immune system and protect against the formation of cancer. In addition, Arugula contains beta-carotene, lutein and zeaxanthin. All these compounds are valued as antioxidants and used in the prevention of diseases such as cancer (as evidenced by studies, especially of the lung, breast, pancreas, colon and prostate gland) and macular degeneration.

What to look for when buying arugula? Its leaves should be, first of all, undamaged, brittle and bright green.

5. Increases immunity and prevents anemia

And all this thanks to the high content of vitamin C, vitamin K, zinc and iron.

Arugula is valued for its rich flavor and aroma. You can only love it or hate it. It is eaten both cold and warm. It is suitable for all salads, salads, mozzarella, cottage cheese, sandwiches, sauces, soups and pasta. When composing it with other additions, we can let our imagination run wild – gourmets think, however, that arugula tastes best with other salads, tomatoes, radishes, chives and olive oil.
