Arrowroot: home care, plant types
An indoor arrowroot flower will decorate any room, but it will look spectacular and please the eye only with proper care. How to properly grow arrowroot and take care of it at home?
Although more than 25 varieties of arrowroot are common in America, three of them can be found most often on window sills.
Arrowroot tricolor differs in that, in addition to white and green, it also has pink veins on the leaves.
White-veined arrowroot, or variegated, is one of the unpretentious species, appreciated for its exotic appearance: large green leaves with white stripes and spots.
Massagen arrowroot, the leaves of which are dark in color.
The arrowroot plant is tropical, but with proper care it grows and multiplies well in the apartment. In just a year, the flower will have daughter shoots and can be planted in four to six separate pots.
The plant grows in the tropical forests of America, because it loves high humidity, shade and warmth. In winter, arrowroot can withstand room temperature of about 18 degrees Celsius, however, its growth slows down a little.
You can not keep the plant on a windowsill illuminated by direct sunlight, arrowroot should be located in partial shade. With excessive illumination, a specific pattern disappears on the leaves of the plant, and it is thanks to its beauty that arrowroot is valued.
Watering should be year-round and regular, every two to four days.
In winter, the plant is not fed, since its growth is slowed down, it is better to add fertilizers from April.
Many inexperienced growers, starting caring for this exotic flower, try to wipe the leaves. Arrowroot does not like such an effect; it is necessary to clean the leaves only if necessary and very delicately, using a soft sponge. It is also recommended to irrigate the plant with a spray bottle.
Transplant and reproduction of arrowroot
For the first two to three years, the plant looks very beautiful: the leaves have a pronounced color. After this period, it is advisable to transplant arrowroot into a pot with new soil in order to maintain its spectacular appearance.
The old plant is carefully removed from the pot together with the soil and divided into parts. Each branch with roots can be transplanted into a separate pot or all together, but into fresh soil.
Even one shoot of arrowroot after six months forms a stuffed bush of greenery, but it is better to plant them in two or four pieces.
It is advisable to transplant the flower in spring or summer, in pots with a sufficient volume of soil.
The roots of the seedling should be at a depth of 2-3 centimeters below the surface so that they are not washed out by water when watering.
An elegant arrowroot will help you recreate a piece of the tropics on any windowsill, in the office or at home.
