Recipes for the use of the medicinal properties of the spotted aronnik
General description of the spotted aronica
Spotted aronnik is a perennial plant that grows up to 60 centimeters in height, is fixed in the ground with the help of an oval rhizome, which scatters numerous adventitious roots around itself, which come in various thicknesses. The rosette of leaves growing near the roots is arrow-shaped. At the base are long petioles. The rosette is surrounded by scaly brownish leaves. The most striking sign of the spotted aronnik is a long inflorescence, which is enclosed in a leaf-like wrapper. This plant has unisexual purple-brown flowers that hold tightly to a thickened cone-shaped peduncle. Thus, the flowers form an inflorescence-cob.
The inflorescence is designed in such a way that it can catch small insects for pollination. In the evening, the cob exudes an aroma that attracts insects. When they fall into a trap, they pollinate flowers involuntarily. After pollination is completed, the hairs droop, thereby opening the way for insects to freedom.
The plant begins to bloom in April and ends in June. After fertilization, a little time passes – and the top of the cob, together with the wrapping sheet, dies off, and red berries grow in their place.
Aronnik spotted prefers to settle on clay soil rich in lime, especially in wet floodplain forests. Often found in mixed forests, as well as in shrub thickets. In the middle zone of the country it does not tolerate winter well.
And although this plant is useful, care must be taken with it, as it is very poisonous and not only the stems and leaves, but also the berries.
The composition of the spotted aronnik is not fully understood. Throughout the plant, especially in the leaves, there are many crystals of oxalic acid, as well as its salts, which are called oxalate salts. Calcium oxalate crystals have sharp and thin needles, upon contact with which human skin is injured.
For treatment, the rhizome of the plant is used, less often the leaves.
