Armagnac Marquis de Salas: history and review of taste

Armagnac with an exquisite “noble” name is produced at the distilleries of the legendary Meukow House, known to the consumer for its excellent French cognacs.

The young brand was created specifically for Russian connoisseurs of strong grape spirits. The company’s main capacities are concentrated in the Cognac region, but the Marquis de Salas brandy, as expected, is made in Gascony, in the small village of Oz.

Brand History

The Meukow company, known to the consumer for its excellent cognacs, was founded in 1862 by natives of Silesia – the brothers Gustav and August-Christoph Meukow. Ten years earlier, they were sent to France by the Russian Tsar Alexander II with orders to organize the supply of cognac for the court.

The company grew rapidly, establishing itself as a manufacturer of elite aged drinks for high-ranking officials.

In the 20th century, Meukow products were served at royal receptions; from the middle of the XNUMXth, the company became the official supplier of the White House and the House of Lords.

In 1979, the Meukow Cognac House merged with the Compagnie de Guyenne and was taken over by the Costa family.

The Marquis de Salas brand appeared in the company’s assortment in 2013. It is produced specifically for the Russian Magnit network at the Distilleries de Matha distilleries, using the classic Armagnac technology.
