Delord – the most famous to date, the House of Armagnac.
The Delors house has its own workshop for the manufacture of barrels for aging the drink. They are made from velvety oak, which is also called “black”. Here they adhere to the rule that the founder of the house himself created: Armagnac must mature in a barrel that has seen the grapes ripen. So if you are lucky enough to see whole stacks of oak staves near the Delord vineyards, you should know that these are blanks from which barrels will subsequently be made.
What is the difference between cognac and armagnac
A Brief History of the House of Delors
Gascon Prospero Delors back in 1875 decided to build his own wine house to turn white wine into fragrant Armagnac. Since at that time the distillation of Armagnac was not very popular, it was a risky step, but Mr. Delors did not lose.
For this case, the best piece of land in the province was chosen. And soon 21 hectares of vineyards brought the first profit.
Today the company is ruled by the fourth generation of the Delors family.
How to make Armagnac Delors
After harvesting all four varieties of grapes, it is pressed and vinified each separately. Then they are sent to the wine cellar, where the correct temperature is maintained.
After that, the drink is sent for aging. The company’s cellars contain more than 1 barrels and a dozen oak barrels. The oldest wines are kept in Bonbonnes (glass bottle) away from the light in a place called Paradise.
When the wine is ripe, it is sent for distillation. Delors is the only House of Armagnac that uses two distillation methods.
