Arketis is an antidepressant medicine that is used only under the strict supervision of your doctor. We check what are the indications and what precautions should be taken with its dosage.
Arketis – indications
As an antidepressant drug, Arketis is helpful in treating patients with:
- depressive episode;
- obsessive-compulsive disorder;
- panic disorder;
- panic disorder with agoraphobia;
- social phobia;
- post-traumatic stress disorder;
- generalized anxiety disorder.
Arketis – composition
The main ingredient of Arketis is paroxetine, which belongs to the serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Each tablet contains 20 mg of the substance. Paroxetine first appeared on the pharmacological market in 1990. It is still used today. It can be used to treat elderly people.

Arketis – dosage
Arketis is for oral use. It should be taken once a day, preferably before breakfast or after the first meal. Arketis must not be chewed, but swallowed with a glass of water. The drug should be stored in a tightly closed container at room temperature. It should not be given to children under the age of 7 because it has not been tested in this group. For people with obsessive-compulsive disorder or anxiety attacks, you can take 40 mg daily.
Arketis – precautions
In case of long-term use of Arketis, the patient should be monitored for suicidal thoughts as well as self-harm. This is especially true for people under the age of 25. Patients who suffer from severe renal or hepatic insufficiency or have glaucoma should also be under medical supervision.
Arketis – contraindications
The main contraindication to treatment with Arketis is hypersensitivity to paroxetine. The drug can not be used in combination with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO). Treatment with paroxetine can be started only 14 days after discontinuation of MAO inhibitors, which, in turn, can be started only one week after the end of treatment with Arketis. In some cases, the attending physician may order additional check-ups.
Arketis – side effects
The most common side effects after taking Arketis include:
- nausea;
- vomiting;
- sexual dysfunction;
- excessive sleepiness;
- appetite disorders;
- constipation;
- diarrhea;
- Headache;
- problems with concentration;
- urinary retention or incontinence;
- rash;
- itching;
- weight gain;
- dizziness;
- trembling.

Arketis is sold with a prescription. Its cost is about PLN 20. The package contains 30 tablets of 0,02 g of paroxetine each.
Arketis – the use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation
Pregnant women should only take Arketis in exceptional circumstances. The attending physician decides about the initiation of the treatment after consulting a psychiatrist. Mothers can breastfeed their babies.
