There are queues in front of polling stations, and in many places, heat can pour from the sky. We advise you on what to do to help yourself wait for the vote and what to avoid in the heat. It is also worth knowing who can vote without waiting in line.
Presidential elections 2020 – voting queues
The second round of presidential elections is underway. Judging by the high turnout two weeks ago, today Poles will also move to the polls. This means that polling stations can get crowded.
>>> New voting rules. Check who will enter the polling station without queuing
Due to the sanitary regime introduced during the current presidential elections, there may be a certain number of people inside the premises, which causes long lines of voters.

Unfortunately, we are forced to wait our turn and the weather does not help – in many places in Poland today there are high temperatures and harsh sun. How to survive in the queue?
How to survive the heat – what should you do?
The most important rule is to avoid the sun. If possible, place yourself in a shaded area.
Before you go to vote, dress in such a way as to be as little negative as possible from the heat. Headgear is obligatory for seniors and accompanying childrenbut in fact everyone should protect their head from strong radiation. A hat or airy cap will work best. Clothing is also important – experts advise choosing light-colored clothing from natural, light materials. This will support the proper thermoregulation of the body.
Before you go out, use sunscreen on your body.
You can spend even several dozen minutes in the queue, that’s why be sure to bring a bottle of water with you – preferably mineral, still. Drink in small sips all the time to avoid dehydration that is dangerous to your health.
It is also important to replenish the electrolytes that we lose with sweat. On a hot day, it is worth reaching for vitamin preparations containing magnesium, potassium, sodium and isotonic drinks. Potassium deficiency can also be replenished by reaching for tomato juice. It is also good to eat fresh fruit, which contains a lot of water, vitamins and minerals. Herbal infusions, e.g. from mint, also have a cooling effect
If you are taking medications, watch your body closely. Some measures may disturb the water and electrolyte balanceTherefore, if you notice any disturbing symptoms, consult a doctor or call an ambulance.
How to survive the heat – don’t
It will be easier to wait in line if you follow a few rules.
First, on hot days, the consumption of coffee, strong tea and sweet drinks should be limited – unfortunately, they dehydrate the body, which makes us feel weak.
You shouldn’t drink alcohol in hot weather! High temperatures in combination with alcohol can lead to dangerous pressure surges
On such a warm day, you should not eat heavy and fatty meals. Why? Fried and high-calorie dishes burden the body, which is tired of the heat anyway. Choose light dishes, such as salads, cold soups.
On warm days, you should also not overstrain your body – it’s better to give up intensive training, e.g. running. This may result in overheating of the body or heat stroke. Leave physical activity in the evening when it is cooler.
If you feel faint, dizzy or have a headache while standing in line, move to a cool place and call the emergency number 112 or 999.
Who can vote without queuing?
Also remember that according to the ordinance of the Ministry of Health, which entered into force before the second round of the elections, the following have priority in polling stations:
- people over 60 years old,
- pregnant women,
- people with a child up to 3 years old
- persons with a certificate of disability, with a certificate of need for special education or those who cannot move independently due to their health condition
If you belong to one of these groups, make use of the priority right and inform the committee about it.
