Your doctor advises you on whether you should use a sinus lamp

Chronic sinusitis it can have a very unpleasant effect on everyday life and reduce its quality. However, there are measures you can take to reduce symptoms or speed up the healing process. Unfortunately, the scientifically supported methods do not include: herbal products, zinc preparations, acupuncture and the aforementioned lamp therapy, emitting infrared light. There is no scientific research showing that lamps can influence the course of the disease, reduce disease duration, or improve quality of life by reducing symptoms.

Scientifically backed treatments for chronic sinusitis are:

  1. Nasal spray steroids – reduce swelling of the sinus mucosa, thereby reducing the feeling of stuffy nose and reducing polyps, if any. However, you have to wait a few days for the effects, and if you do not want to experience symptoms, you should use treatment for several months or even a year. Some patients are reluctant to respond to steroid therapy, but nasal, compared to oral, is largely free from side effects when used as directed.
  2. Irrigation of the nasal cavity or inhalation with saline – they reduce swelling of the sinus mucosa and help dilute the mucus. There are special sprays, but the simplest and cheapest way is to rinse the nose with 0.9% saline. This activity, however, is not pleasant, but requires daily use.
  3. In case of pain, use ibuprofen, paracetamol. However, be careful with preparations containing acetylsalicylic acid (e.g. aspirin) – they may worsen the symptoms.

You should contact your ENT doctor if surgical intervention is indicated, as there are treatments that can reduce symptoms, but not every patient may be qualified for such an ENT surgery.
