Can there be bacteria in my urine? Does their presence always indicate an illness? How does their presence affect human health? Should additional tests be performed? The question is answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.
Are bacteria in urine always dangerous?
Hello, I’m 26 years old and have recently been doing urine morphology and tests for the job I am about to start. I have an appointment with my doctor soon, but the urine test results made me a bit concerned. Namely, some bacteria came out in the urine, and I wonder if bacteria in the urine are dangerous to health? Could this be an illness? Will I need an antibiotic? I admit that I always feel bad after taking antibiotics. Besides, I really care about this job and would like to start it. Can the doctor prevent me from working because of bacteria in my urine?
Of course, it will affect my health first of all, so I am worried whether bacteria in the urine can be dangerous? What can bacteria in urine show? Should I do any other tests? I don’t feel bad, I don’t have a fever, I don’t have bladder pain or a burning sensation when urinating. Therefore, I admit that the results of the research surprised me and I do not know what they really mean. I am asking for help and advice. Thank you very much in advance for your honest answer. Regards.
The doctor explains the presence of bacteria in the urine
Ladies and Gentlemen, it is a pity that you did not provide any information about your health. First of all, do you suffer from any chronic diseases and do you take any medications on a permanent basis. The presence of bacteria in urine suggests urinary tract infection (ZUM). In addition to the presence of bacteria in the urine, an increased number of leukocytes and nitrites can also be observed in the test. A urinary tract infection can have different symptoms depending on its location.
With cystitis, you may notice frequent urination in small portions, a feeling of incomplete emptying of the bladder, burning or itching during voiding (urination), and sometimes haematuria. In acute pyelonephritis, fever exceeding 38 degrees C and stabbing pain in the lumbar region are often observed.
Bacteriuria is usually not a cause for concern, so you don’t have to worry about being prevented from working by an occupational medicine doctor. I suggest that you do your examination again. With the result, please go to your family doctor. Your doctor may advise you to additionally culture your urine. Treatment of bacteriuria is by taking an antibiotic, although it is not always necessary.
