Are aborted tissues sold?

The American organization Planned Parenthood, dealing with conscious parenting planning, contraception and abortion, has run into serious trouble. In a video shot using a hidden camera, the doctor from the facility lists the costs of tissues collected from aborted fetuses. This triggered a wave of questions as to whether the samples were being sold and where they were going.

The video shot with a hidden camera is the work of a member of the Center for Medical Progress – a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding knowledge in the field of modern therapies, including research using stem cells. The man made an appointment with one of Planned Parenthood’s employees for lunch and discussed abortion issues during the interview.

In the conversation, the doctor, sipping wine, freely said that the cost of a single sample varied between $ 30 and $ 100. It was enough to trigger an avalanche of accusations. As it turned out, however, this statement could be taken out of context. As CNN found out, in a later part of the video, no longer shown by the Center for Medical Progress, the woman explains that the sample can be taken with the mother’s consent and used for research purposes. At the same time, in a statement made by Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, we learn that the prices quoted by the doctor during the interview are not the value of the sample on the black market, but the cost of transporting and preparing the tissue.

This does not mean, however, that the facility that provides legal abortions has clean hands. Later in the video, the doctor explains exactly how to perform an abortion to get the tissues in the best condition. He explains that you have to choose very carefully where to put the tongs so as not to crush the heart or the lungs, which may be useful. He also mentions that this knowledge is passed on to all new doctors entering Planned Parenthood.

There is a big ethical problem because the doctor performing the abortion should choose the safest and most comfortable method for the woman. This is a priority issue during an abortion. Possible damage to the fetal tissues that could be harvested is a secondary concern. However, CNN commentators are wondering if this is really the case, since the doctor from the facility has so openly raised the issue of good tissue health, while not mentioning the patient’s condition at all.
