Green vines of grapes will be a great decoration for a summer cottage, especially if you build a gazebo, the wall of which they will braid. It is not difficult to do this without the help of specialists. A grape arbor is a great design solution, and now we will tell you how to build it.

Types of structures

The first step is to decide on the type of structure that the vine will braid. There are several basic types of structures that are not difficult to make without outside help. Now we will tell the owners of the vineyard in more detail about what these structures are and what their advantages are:

  1. Arched. These types of arbors are very common. They are easy to make and work great as a frame. This design creates a sufficient amount of shade, so the owner of the site and his guests can take a break from the scorching sun. In addition, the vines are constantly in the sun and receive the necessary amount of solar energy. The only negative: if you want to get a real arch, you will have to purchase an arched structure, and this is quite expensive. But you can try to make an arch with your own hands.
  2. Domed. This option will be an excellent design solution. Such a gazebo resembles a fabulous house, braided with vines. You can choose the size and dimensions that suit you, making it miniature or huge so that you can invite guests on a hot summer day. Design advantages: plants receive a sufficient amount of sunlight, and the structure will decorate the summer cottage.
  3. Pergola. This is a special canopy for growing grapes. It can be made in the form of an arch or extension to the house. In the latter case, the pergola will be something like a visor that creates a shadow and performs a decorative function.
  4. Free form. If you do not want to use already familiar options, you can connect your imagination and build a gazebo at your discretion. Just make a solid frame, calculate the area correctly, and take into account the characteristics of the grapes that will grow on such an arbor.

The most expensive and complex design, which, however, will be an excellent design solution:

  1. To begin with, you will need a frame made of rods, which must be made of metal.
  2. Dig holes in which you will secure the rods. Gravel, concrete or broken brick (at your discretion) is laid out at the bottom of each such lenok.
  3. After that, rods are inserted into the holes, and they are poured with cement on top.
  4. To make the arch strong, you can additionally mount several transverse rods and weld them.
  5. Horizontal fasteners can be fixed with wire.

You can also use ready-made arched structures from a profile pipe if you do not want to do them yourself.

Dome

This gazebo will make your summer cottage a fabulous place. In this little green house you can hide from the summer heat:

  1. First, the marking of the area is done, holes are dug where the supports are placed. For supports, pipes or bars made of wood are used. Do not forget about the entrance to your gazebo.
  2. Mount the base for the roof from above. One end of the rods should be attached to this frame, and the other end of all the rods will end at one point, forming a dome.
  3. Next, proceed to the formation of a green gazebo. Young vines are planted on the sides of the entrance and guided around the circumference.
  4. Do not forget to tie them up and remove unnecessary elements in time to get a green shelter.

A budget solution that will help decorate the site:

  1. First, holes are dug into which supports are lowered.
  2. Concrete is poured into the holes from above for strength.
  3. Vertical and horizontal rods are stretched between the supports, in order to then tighten them with vines.
  4. The roof is a continuous covering so that it can protect the structure from rain.
  5. It is better not to make the structure too high, otherwise it will be difficult to care for the plants later.

Extension to the house

A very convenient option, since one of the walls will be the wall of the house. You just have to build frames on the sides and a semblance of a roof:

  1. Dig holes and install supports in them.
  2. After that, fill the holes with cement.
  3. Do not forget about the roof slope, so that you can stay in the gazebo even in bad weather.
  4. To properly form the vines, and to make the plants feel comfortable, the gazebo is set in the sun, not in the shade.

Features of plant selection

Of course, not every grape variety can be used to build a gazebo. You will need varieties of grapes that do not need shelter for the winter. This will allow them to grow and grow normally. Removing grapes from the trellis risks damaging them or preventing them from growing normally the next season. Therefore, use only uncovered grapes.

It is best to use young grapes. Mature grapes are much more difficult to shape in such a way that they grow as expected. But you plant the young one at the foot of the gazebo and immediately form it at your discretion, guiding it the way you need.

A variety called Maiden Grapes is best suited for planting. This is an ornamental variety that will delight you with emerald leaves on reddish shoots in summer. And with the advent of autumn, its foliage will change color to crimson or even purple, without losing its decorative qualities at all. In addition, the fruits of Maiden Grapes are quite edible, which will be a great bonus for you.

So, we examined the main types of arbors for grapes and the features of their construction. Now you can decorate the summer cottage at your discretion by building a cozy veranda or a fabulous house entwined with vines.
