Aquacel Ag is a hydrofiber non-woven dressing composed of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose fibers with 1,2 percent silver ions. Promotes wound healing by surrounding it with a moist environment, holding back and absorbing significant amounts of exudate and microorganisms. The Aquacel Ag dressing, through autolysis, facilitates cleansing the wound from dead tissue.
After absorbing exudate, a gel dressing fills the internal wound. The silver ions contained in the dressing released into the body have an antimicrobial effect and are able to fight many groups of harmful organisms, including bacteria (both aerobic and anaerobic), antibiotic-resistant MRSA strains and VRE yeasts. In this way, Aquacel Ag prevents the spread of infection more effectively than standard dressings and bandages.
The degree of reduction in bacterial growth depends on the type of bacteria. All tests were in vitro tests. Aquacel Ag dressing is available in pharmacies in packs of 5 or 10. The dressing sizes are 5 x 5, 10 x 10, 15 x 15 and 20 x 30 cm; the dressing is also available in 2 x 45 cm strips. The price depends on the size and number of dressings in the package. A small package of 5 x 5 cm dressings costs about PLN 12 and is the cheapest, while a large package of 20 x 30 cm dressings costs even PLN 110. The price of 15 x 15 cm dressings is approx. PLN 45. The price also depends on the facility and may be higher or lower.
Aquacel Ag dressing indications
The dressing is suitable for the treatment of acute wounds (e.g. abrasions, cuts and lacerations), chronic wounds (e.g. pressure ulcers and ulcers), surgical wounds, traumatic wounds and severe bleeding wounds. The Aquacel Ag dressing is also intended for the treatment of XNUMXst and XNUMXnd degree burns. Aquacel Ag can also be used safely in the case of oncological wounds with exudate – skin tumors and mycoses, skin metastases, Kaposi’s and vascular sarcoma.
The use of Aquacel Ag
Aquacel Ag dressing should be applied to the wound after washing and disinfecting the wound area. The dressing should be covered and held in place with a gauze bandage or similar secondary dressing. In the case of dry wounds, the dressing should be moistened with the wound irrigation solution; in the case of shallow wounds, the dressing should cover an area of 1-2 cm outside the wound area. About 80% of deep wounds should be filled with Aquacel Ag dressing, leaving a 1-2 cm margin at the same time. The dressing then takes the form of a gel, which then allows you to minimize empty spaces suitable for bacterial reproduction and for the accumulation of exudate.
Information on the use of Aquacel Ag
The dressing may remain in place for 7 days in the event of wounds, as long as it is not soaked with exudate fluid. In the event of burns, the dressing can be left for 14 days. Aquacel Ag dressing can be trimmed as needed. The secondary bandage that holds the Aquacel Ag dressing in place should be changed regularly.
