Apple Watch Series 6: release date and specifications
Apple smartwatches continue to be in good demand, although the competition is getting stronger, and the Watch’s shortcomings are obvious. What will be the Apple Watch Series 6 – a revolution or an evolution again?

No matter how their critics treat the Apple Watch, the commercial success of the device is a fait accompli. At the end of 2019, according to analysts at Strategy Analytics, 31 million Apple watches were sold worldwide, while the entire Swiss watch industry was able to sell 21 million pieces. Consumer love for the Apple Watch rests on three pillars – brand image, ecosystem integration, and several features unique to the wearables market. And if everything is clear with the first, then the rest can be improved, which should happen in the sixth generation of devices.

For several years in a row, Apple Watch has been presented at the company’s autumn presentation, along with new iPhones, which underlines the importance of watches for the company. In 2020, the wearable gadget went on sale in September, and in October it reached the market.

Apple Watch Series 6 price

As you know, Apple is very sensitive to the issue of maintaining secrecy around their unreleased devices. So we will find out the exact price of the Apple Watch Series 6 at the presentation, and the cost in Our Country – even later. But analysts expect that the sixth generation of smart watches from Apple will cost from $400 (28,6 thousand rubles at the exchange rate on March 11). Note that in the market the figures will be higher, because the fifth generation at the start of sales was offered in our country from 33 thousand rubles.

Apple Watch Series 6 specifications

Along with the watch, Apple will also introduce watchOS 7, which will bring new features to previous generations of devices. So, the authoritative portal 9to5mac reports that a lot of work is being done on customizing the dials. For example, the user will be able to independently set it up on their watch, and then share it with other Apple Watch owners. It turns out sort of custom themes.

In watchOS 7, you will be able to choose your own photo from certain shared albums to create a theme. Here’s how it works: Apple Photos includes an album type that allows multiple users to access and contribute to the same shared album. This will allow, for example, to use a shared family album as a watch face with photos added by household members.

Speaking of watchOS 7 watch faces, it’s worth mentioning a new one called Infograph Pro, information about which was leaked from the source code of an early build of iOS 14. It will include a tachymeter, which will be a scale around the watch face, which will allow you to measure speed and distance depending on from travel time.

Apparently, the Apple Watch Series 6 will finally get the sleep tracking that Bloomberg promised back in its fifth generation. Of course, this functionality can also be obtained using third-party applications from the App Store, but the standard solution will definitely not hurt. The sleep tracker will work with the Health applet and, based on biometrics, make recommendations on how to improve the quality of sleep.

The new generation will continue to develop features that directly track the health of the user. We are talking about improving the operation of the ECG sensor, which, although still unique, does not always give correct results. Finally, Apple smartwatches can teach you how to detect blood oxygen saturation (SpO2). A pulse oximeter has already appeared in some wearable devices, such as those from Fitbit.

According to rumors, the Apple Watch Series 6 has every chance of getting a screen made using a completely new technology. We are talking about a microLED matrix, the use of which promises less energy consumption, and hence (finally!) More battery life. It is possible that an under-screen fingerprint scanner will appear along with the new screen, but so far this is just speculation. After all, Apple continues to push Touch ID to the technological backyard. Many would like to see a watch with a round screen, but Apple is unlikely to do this.

Judging by one of the patents from Apple, the company is preparing to abandon the “atavism”, namely the rotating crown. The documentation talks about the touch zone, which will give you the ability to control swipes. But whether this will be implemented in the sixth generation is unknown.
