Apple tree Winner
The Pobeditel apple tree is a relatively new winter ripening variety. It was bred by the All-Union Institute of Horticulture. Michurin, namely by the breeder S.I. Isaev, the author of many other types of apple trees. This hybrid is obtained by mixing two varieties: “Jonathan” and Antonovka.
Variety “Winner”: features
The main growing area of this apple tree is the Lipetsk and Bryansk regions. It can often be seen in production plantings in this region.
The “Winner” apple tree ripens in late September – early October
The “Winner” is endowed with the following distinctive features:
- it has a spherical crown, which is densely covered with foliage with a diameter of 3 m;
- the variety is considered early-growing, the tree ripens for fruiting 5-6 years after the seedling is planted in the ground;
- average winter hardiness;
- high yield;
- the frequency of fruiting is poorly expressed;
- mature trees 10-12 years old have a height of 3 m.
Representatives of this variety were noted at the Grodno Agricultural Experimental Station and the Minsk State Variety Section for their excellent qualities: early harvest, sustainable fruiting, which is practically not affected by external factors. The winner is attractive because of the large volume of fruits per tree and its compact size.
Apple variety “Winner”: fruit quality and application
Winter varieties are most valuable for their good keeping quality; they do not deteriorate for several months after harvest. This includes the “Winner”. Apples are stored without losing their properties and appearance until April.
The quality of its fruit is at a high level. This apple variety has the following characteristics:
- gives large fruits, rounded, slightly flattened in the center. Slight ribbing is visible on the surface;
- apples are yellow-green in color, have a red striped blush on the sunny side;
- the pulp is light, juicy. The taste is pleasant, dessert, sweet and sour;
- both fruits and leaves boast a high resistance to scab damage;
- the skin of apples is smooth, thick and firm.
This is a winter variety of apple trees, you can harvest in late September – early November. After being removed from the branch, the fruits are not entirely suitable for consumption, they should lie down for a month. During this time, they mature and acquire all the fullness of taste and aroma that they are only capable of. The storage of these apples can be extended until April.
The variety is versatile, can be used fresh, as well as for the preparation of juices, jams and desserts. Due to its neat size, it is used for mass plantings for free growth.
