Apple-tree varieties Idared
Idared is an American apple that was bred in 1935 by crossing Jonathan and Wagenre. The variety is late and grows well in the southern regions of Russia. Having learned how to grow this variety, you can get a stable large harvest.
Description of apple variety “Idared”
The variety has high yield rates. The fruits remain on the branches for a long time, do not fall off and do not rot. Apples are stored for a long time and tolerate transportation normally.
Growing apple trees “Idared”
Here are the main characteristics of the variety:
- The trees are tall. Active growth begins at a young age. By the 10th year of life, the height of the apple tree is 3,2 m.
- The crown is wide, oval in shape. Most of the branches point upwards. To achieve a spherical crown shape, constant pruning is needed.
- The flowers are pink, round. The tree blooms early. Pollen vitality is high.
- The fruits are large, the average weight is 140−190 g. The shape of the fruits is flat-round. The largest apples are at the top of the tree.
- The peel on the apples is thin, but dense, with a waxy coating.
- The main color of apples is light green. Large patches of dark red blush are superimposed on top of it.
Apples of this variety are pleasant to the taste. They are juicy, with sweet and sour creamy flesh. The pulp is firm at the time of maturity, but by the end of the shelf life it becomes loose.
It is necessary to plant apple trees of this variety near pollinating trees. They should bloom at the same time. For example, the apple tree “Wagner” or “Red Delicious” will do.
Plant an apple tree in the fall from September to October, or in the spring to early May. Dig a hole 2 months before planting so that the soil has time to settle. The depth and diameter of the hole is 80 cm. Before planting, add peat and humus to fertilize it. Place the seedling in the hole so that its root collar is 5 cm above ground level. If you lower it lower, the apple tree will grow slowly, and if you raise it high, the tree will not survive the winter. Fill the hole with soil, compact, but be careful not to damage the root system.
Dig a peg near the seedling for support
At first, water the young apple tree often and abundantly so that it does not suffer from the heat. Remove weeds and loosen the soil in time. In the first three years after planting in the spring and fall, apply a nitrogen-based fertilizer under the tree. In spring, add a little potassium to the nitrogen, if desired.
Apple tree “Idared” – the queen of the garden. If you take proper care of it, you will always have sweet and juicy apples that are good fresh and processed.
