Description of the Borovinka apple tree

This variety is especially widespread in the central zone, Krasnodar Territory and the Caucasus. It is believed that it appeared naturally as a result of folk selection. It was not possible to determine its exact origin.

Borovinka fruits have a beautiful appearance

The tree grows up to 4-5 m. Its crown is thin and round. The leaves are large, dark green. They have small dents the size of a pea in a chaotic manner. The flowers are white-pink. In the 5th year, the tree bears fruit. They ripen from late summer to September.

In adulthood, the harvest from a tree reaches 70-100 kg

The fruits are beautiful, round. The surface is shiny and smooth. The color of the fruit is yellow or green with pinkish streaks, and the cover is a striped blush over most of the fruit’s surface. There is a small waxy coating on the skin. The pulp is sweet and sour, a little hard. The seeds are large, dark brown in color.

On the basis of this variety of apples, a large number of different types have been bred:

  • “Pineapple”. The fruits ripen late. The mass of apples is 85-120 g;
  • Akulovskaya. It has an average ripening period. Fruit weight – up to 90 g. It is easily affected by powdery mildew;
  • “Red”. It has an average ripening period. Weight – up to 100 g. Frost-resistant species;
  • Borovinka Sergeeva. It has an average ripening period. Fruit weight – up to 150 g. High-yielding species.

All these species bear fruit already in the 5th year after planting.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of the Borovinka apple tree?

The apple tree is characterized by the following advantages:

  • high productivity;
  • unpretentiousness in planting and care;
  • fruiting at an early age;
  • frost resistance;
  • moderate resistance to diseases and pests;
  • transportability of fruits.

That is why you should pay attention to this apple variety.

The main disadvantage is that the tree lives for only 50-55 years. For pollination, you need to plant other varieties of apples. The tree also does not tolerate drought well and, with a lack of moisture, begins to shed fruits. If the apples are ripe, then they fall off the branches very quickly. Apples have a mild taste, and this is also considered a disadvantage.
