Appendicitis: symptoms and causes

Appendicitis is an inflammation of the process of the caecum, which requires early surgical intervention. Appendicitis is not an infectious disease and is not contagious. Most often occurs at the age of 10 to 30 years, but the exception is not any of the ages.

Any symptoms in medicine are conditionally divided into primary and secondary. Attention should be paid already to the primary symptoms, so as not to lose precious time, the result of delay can be disastrous.

The main (primary) symptoms of appendicitis include pain in the navel area, which gradually passes into the lower right side of the abdomen. The difference from other types of pain is that this pain does not stop even when taking painkillers and has a cramping character. Over time, the pain increases. Any movement causes unbearable pain. There may also be nausea, vomiting, fever, white plaque on the tongue – this should already be attributed to secondary symptoms.

Appendicitis can be both acute and chronic. Among the two species, there are slight differences in symptoms.

In acute appendicitis, the following symptoms are observed: a feeling of discomfort somewhere in the stomach, pain from the navel increases rapidly and falls down the abdomen. Nausea and vomiting are observed. When palpation occurs, the strongest pain occurs. The temperature rises. At the first symptoms of acute appendicitis, the patient should be hospitalized.

Chronic appendicitis develops soon after suffering an attack of acute appendicitis, which did not require medical intervention. In this case, the following processes are observed in chronic appendicitis:

  • repetition of pain attacks of acute appendicitis, mostly they are provoked even by minor physical exertion or occur with sudden movements;
  • reduced appetite;
  • there may be the appearance of causeless irritation in the patient.

In case of chronic appendicitis, a doctor’s supervision is simply necessary.

So, the main visual symptom of appendicitis is, as a rule, the restless behavior of the patient, trying to take a comfortable position to reduce abdominal pain.

Pain in appendicitis varies from acute to mild. Pain in appendicitis is like a cramping character.

Nausea is also a sign of appendicitis. Also, the work of the entire gastrointestinal tract is disrupted and the patient feels the urge to defecate.

A special and complex case is appendicitis in pregnant women. The symptoms are similar in nature to labor pains, so only qualified specialists can make the correct diagnosis.

Symptoms in both adults and children are the same, but there are some points that are worth paying attention to. The child can not always explain what exactly and how it hurts. It can not be given, cry, curl up “in a ball” to somehow ease the pain. Therefore, you can only guess about appendicitis by the behavior of the child.

The symptoms can be varied, and the individuality of the human body contributes its share. For some, an increase in temperature can be attributed to the symptoms of appendicitis, for others, for example, a rapid heartbeat will be one of the symptoms.

With symptoms of appendicitis, you should not use any medications, this can make it difficult for specialists to help the patient.

The causes of the development of appendicitis should include blockage of the process, sometimes it is a consequence of the accumulation of various types of waste in it (small hairs, husk of seeds and small bones, etc.).

The diagnosis of appendicitis can be carried out in medical institutions. It will not show specific changes in the body, only general signs of the standard reaction of the body to inflammation. Appendicitis is better diagnosed in the acute phase of the disease, before which it is better not to delay. At the first symptoms of appendicitis, you should immediately consult a doctor to prevent negative health consequences.

At the first signs of appendicitis, you should immediately consult a doctor. Self-diagnosis is not worth it, and self-medication is even more so.

Anyone can recognize the signs of appendicitis. It is necessary to remember that a timely response to the symptoms will allow you to provide faster and better help from specialists.
