Apap for children is a medicine given to toddlers who have noticed the first symptoms of a cold or flu. It has antipyretic properties. It can also be used for mild to moderate pain. We check how Apap works for children and what contraindications may be when taking it.
Apap for children – indications
Apap for children is a representative of the group of painkillers and antipyretics that can be used to treat the first symptoms of a cold or flu in children. It is also used in cases of low or moderate intensity (headache, toothache).
Apap can be given to toddlers older than three months. In the case of younger children, the minor patient’s doctor should be consulted. The drug is used to break down fever in diseases such as chicken pox, urinary tract infection or rotavirus diarrhea.
Apap for children is also given to the elderly in order not to overburden the body with strong drugs.
Apap for children – composition
The main active ingredient of Apap for children is paracetamol. The drug also contains:
- citric acid monohydrate;
- sodium citrate;
- sucrose;
- metyl parahydroksybenzoesan (E 218);
- propyl parahydroksybenzoesan (E 216);
- guma ksantan;
- Purified Water;
- orange flavor.
Apap for children – dosage
Apap for children is used orally. Before administration, the bottle should be shaken. The packaging has been secured against children. To open them, press the lid and then turn it clockwise. The drug must not be mixed with other drinks while it is being administered.
The daily recommended dose of Apapu for children depends on the patient’s body weight. For every kilogram you will get 15 mg of medicine every 6 hours or 10 mg of medicine every 4 hours. Thus, the recommended doses are as follows, assuming that a minor patient takes the drug every 4 hours
- 3-6 months – 1,5 ml;
- 6-24 months – 3 ml;
- 2-3 years – 4,5 ml;
- 4-6 years – 6 ml;
- 7-9 years – 9 ml;
- 10-12 lat – 12,5 ml.
Apap for children – contraindications
When giving your child Apap, it must not be combined with other drugs that contain paracetamol. It should also be checked if the minor patient is not allergic to any of the substances. This is especially true of sucrose.
Patients who have a bad liver (Gilbert’s syndrome or hepatitis) should also not take Apapu for children. The same is true for people with impaired renal function, bronchial asthma or haemolytic anemia. A chronically malnourished or dehydrated patient should also not take Apapu for children.
Apap for children – side effects
The main side effects that may occur after taking Apap for children are:
- vomiting;
- nausea;
- excessive sleepiness;
- Headache;
- constipation;
- abdominal pain;
- reddening of the skin.
Apap for children – price
The price of Apap for children is not high. It ranges from PLN 10 to PLN 15 depending on the pharmacy. The drug is not sold by prescription. It can be administered to pregnant women and nursing mothers.
