Antioxidant Facials

What are antioxidants and why they are increasingly included in cosmetics to maintain health, beauty and youthful skin – we will talk about this in detail in our article.

What are Antioxidants

Antioxidants are substances that can fight free radicals, which, not without reason, are declared the main enemies of skin cells.

Antioxidants Included in Advanced Cosmetic Formulas

Free Radicals – oxygen molecules that lack one electron. They try to make up for their inferiority with healthy structures. Taking the missing electrons from other molecules, they destroy them.

Nature provided the human body own antioxidants, which neutralize free radicals before they can cause damage. But for a number of reasons, over time, free radicals become more and more. This difficult situation is called “oxidative stress”.

His main provocateurs:

  1. ultraviolet radiation;

  2. air pollution;

  3. tobacco and alcohol;

  4. emotional stress;

  5. improper nutrition.

An American scientist, professor of biogerontology Denham Harman published a scientific work in 1956 proving the harmful effects of free radicals, where he wrote:

The accumulation of free radicals leads to tissue degradation and is the main cause of aging.”

Since the skin is our main protective organ, it is the first to take a hit. Obviously she needs antioxidant protection.

Residents of cities, where exposure to infrared radiation and tropospheric (harmful) ozone are particularly aggressive, have an increased need for antioxidants.

How to choose cosmetics with antioxidants

The purpose of cosmetics is not just to provide the skin with new antioxidants, but also to take care of those already present in the body. The task is not easy, because the skin is not always ready to include extraneous elements in its “value system”.

Take, for example, vitamin C, the most well-known antioxidant. Getting it to work in a cosmetic formula proved quite difficult:

  • large molecules do not penetrate the skin well;

  • the substance is unstable and oxidizes rapidly.

Dr. Sheldon R. Pinnel (founder of the brand SkinCeuticals) in 1989 was the first to patent the technology for stabilizing pure vitamin C. His method is called Duke’s patented parameters by the name of the university where the research took place.

It turned out that for the stabilization of vitamin C and its penetration into the skin, only three conditions must be met.

  1. Pure L-ascorbic acid.

  2. High concentration of L-ascorbic acid (10–20%).

  3. Formula with acidic pH (below 3,5).

This technology has opened up new possibilities for the use of topical antioxidants in cosmetology.

Most Effective Antioxidants

The names of antioxidant heroes who are ready to fight for the health and youth of our skin are well known:

  • vitamin C;

  • vitamin E;

  • ferulic acid;

  • phloretin;

  • resveratrol.

However, to fully protect the skin from free radicals, a combination of several substances is required.

The multi-component antioxidant formula was developed only in 2005. It was another breakthrough in cosmetology – the first preparations appeared on the scene containing not one, but several antioxidants for external use at the optimum concentration.

The classic example is Serum CE Ferulic, in which three antioxidants appear on an equal footing, jointly increasing the protective functions of the skin by 8 times.

The formula of the drug seems to be simple, but it took years of research to develop it. The composition includes:

  • pure L-ascorbic acid 15%;

  • alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E) 1%;

  • ferulic acid 0,5%.

In 1995, scientific evidence was published proving the effectiveness of SkinCeuticals antioxidants for UV protection.

Antioxidant cosmetics and cosmetology

Antioxidant-based care goes well with invasive (violating the integrity of the skin) manipulations:

  • peelings;

  • laser procedures;

  • injections.

SkinCeuticals is the pioneer of integrated care, introduced in 2012. The proven effectiveness of CE Ferulic antioxidants has shocked the scientific community.

Antioxidant Serum has been shown in a clinical study to CE Ferulic in combination with laser procedures, it shortens the rehabilitation period and improves the penetration of vitamin C into the skin several times.

CE Ferulic

Highly effective antioxidant serum for dry and normal skin performs several functions at once:

  • neutralizes free radicals;

  • prevents premature aging;

  • protects the skin from the effects of UV radiation and bad ecology;

  • corrects signs of photoaging: superficial and deep wrinkles, hyperpigmentation;

  • improves the tolerance of invasive procedures, accelerates the rehabilitation process and prolongs the effect obtained.

Phloretin CF

Antioxidant serum for oily and normal skin prone to pigmentation, contains a combination of:

  1. L-ascorbic acid 10%;

  2. phloretin 2,0%;

  3. ferulic acid 0,5%.

Serum reduces cell damage by 97%, corrects signs of aging, prevents and corrects pigmentation, protects against UV damage.

Phloretin CF Gel

The composition of the product is approximately the same as that of the serum, but the texture is new – the serum in the gel. Surveys have shown that men and owners of very dry skin appreciate it, regardless of gender. Due to the acidic pH, the penetration of the gel is as high as that of the serum, and their effect on the skin is identical.

Serum 10

Highly effective antioxidant serum for all skin types contains:

  1. pure L-ascorbic acid 10%;

  2. ferulic acid.

Provides deep penetration into the skin of vitamin C, which keeps the formation of free radicals under control, preventing the appearance of new signs of photoaging and correcting existing ones. In addition, the serum is suitable for those with sensitive skin.

Resveratrol BE

Concentrated antioxidant gel for skin regeneration at night contains:

  1. pure stabilized resveratrol 1%;

  2. baicalin (antioxidant) 0,5%;

  3. alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E) 1%.

Due to the special composition Resveratrol BE It starts the processes of natural cell regeneration, enhances antioxidant protection, increases the density and elasticity of the skin, restores its radiance. And all this happens while you sleep.
