A sonorous French name, a convenient bottle narrowed in the middle, and, most importantly, magical designations VS, VSOP, XO – Anri cognac has every chance to intrigue the buyer. But the producer of the drink is not going to hide its origin: JSC APF “Fanagoria” is proud that its products are no worse than French cognacs. Proof of this is the numerous awards awarded at various competitions to cognacs from the Anri collection.
Historical reference. In 1963, a wine and juice factory was opened in the village of Sennoy, Temryuk District, Krasnodar Territory, which at that time was the second largest in Europe. In 1996, the enterprise was re-equipped and registered as OJSC APF “Fanagoria” (Fanagoria was called Taman in ancient times).
The plant is fully provided with its own raw materials: its vineyards occupy 3000 hectares. At first, Fanagoria produced only wine, but in 2009 the company’s blenders began to create cognac. They carefully studied the experience of their French colleagues and at first used cognac spirits purchased in France. Already in 2009, Anri VS 3-year-old cognac went on sale.
But Taman is a region with a mild climate and fertile soils, no less suitable for growing grapes than the best French terroirs. Therefore, over time, French spirits were replaced by those made from Taman grapes. Henri only benefited from the replacement: buyers were happy to purchase cognac at a very reasonable price for such quality.
In 2011, the company launched the production of Anri VSOP 5-year-old and Anri XO 10-year-old cognacs. Grape spirits, which are used for the production of cognacs, are aged in Caucasian sessile oak barrels aged 80–120 years. Barrels are made and fired in the Fanagoria cooperage shop. The barrels are of such high quality that famous Scotch whiskey producers William Grant & Sons Ltd and Glenmorangie buy them.
