In France, prosthesis manufacturers are on a bad streak. The PIP company, which produces breast implants made of industrial silicone, has recently started its trial. Now it has turned out that a similar problem concerns hip prostheses.
Suspicious prostheses, for which the manufacturer did not obtain special approvals, were implanted in over 600 patients. As it turned out, their manufacturer, Ceraver, unlawfully placed marks on its products, which were to prove that they comply with EU standards.
The suspicious dentures have already been withdrawn from the market, and the company’s premises have been searched. Ceraver ensures that the implants are not dangerous to health, and the confusion is only due to failure to complete formalities. Unofficially, however, it is said that some parts of the prostheses were covered with an antibacterial coating, which during laboratory tests killed half of the mice participating in the experiments.
This is not the first scandal with prostheses in France. Two weeks ago, the process of the management of PIP, a company producing defective breast implants, started. Silicone dentures were implanted in over 300. women around the world.
