The apple-tree variety “Anis” is old. In the last century, he held a leading position in apple farms. There are about 60 varieties of it, but they have similar characteristics and growing rules.

Apples of this variety are versatile. They are suitable for fresh consumption, for making juices, cider, jam, pastilles and for drying.

The fruit of the “Anise” apple tree has a characteristic anise flavor and aroma.

Here are the main characteristics of the variety:

  • The trees are tall with a wide pyramidal crown. The older the tree, the more its crown is rounded.
  • The apple tree begins to bear fruit in the 5th year of life. After that, the crop can be harvested annually. The average amount of harvest per tree per year is 200-300 kg.
  • The main part of the branches is curved, directed upwards, the bark on it is light brown.
  • Leaves are dark green, matte, rounded. There is a slight hair foliage.
  • The flower buds are light pink. The petals of blossoming flowers have a greenish tint.
  • Fruits are small, average weight – 65 g. In shape, they resemble a turnip.
  • The color of the fruit is a blurred red blush, the pulp is pale green.
  • The apples are juicy, sweet, with a slight sourness. There is a light smack and aroma of anise.
  • Fruits are stored without loss of presentation for 35-40 days.

The most popular varieties of the variety are scarlet, Sverdlovsk and striped. “Scarlet Anise” ripens in the summer, earlier than its “brothers”. The Sverdlovsk “Anis” has large sweet fruits, in color they are paler than other subspecies. “Striped anise” – one of the latest varieties, the color corresponds to the name.

Cultivation of an apple tree “Anis”

The main rule when planting is to prevent the roots of the seedling from drying out, this will kill it. After purchasing, wrap the roots with a wet rag. At home, place the seedling in water for 2-3 days before planting. Prepare a hole for him with a depth of 0,5 m and a diameter of 1,25 m. Fill it with a fertile mixture. To do this, combine 30 kg of manure, 500 g of superphosphate, 1 kg of ash and 100 g of potassium. Place the seedling in the ground so that its root collar protrudes a couple of centimeters above the ground.

Rodents love apple trees of this variety, so protect tree trunks from them in a timely manner.

Caring for “Anis” is simple. Water the tree regularly and mulch the ground after watering. Prune the crown in the spring. Engage in disease and pest prevention.

The apple tree “Anis” bears abundant fruit, is suitable for cultivation in different parts of Russia, undemanding in terms of care. A tree like this can be a good training for beginners in gardening.
