Angora hamster: photo, care and maintenance
Long fluffy fur, scattering in different directions from any movement, is the main distinguishing feature of these rodents. The Angora hamster is adorable but requires more care than its short-haired cousins.
Description of Angora hamsters
These amazing creatures actually have the right to be proud of their fur. In the photo, the Angora hamster looks like it is a disheveled fat rodent with a touching expression on its face. But, if you wet a hamster, you can immediately see how small it really is. Although it is impossible to wet and generally bathe hamsters of this breed, these sissies are very prone to colds.
The rest of the Angora variety of hamsters is not much different from the Syrian:
- the average life span is two years;
- low mobility in adulthood;
- passion for climbing the walls and ceiling of the cage;
- quick-wittedness and curiosity.
Males have fluffy hairs much longer than females. So, boys can boast of a coat of 5 cm long, while in girls it reaches no more than 2 cm. The color of the coat is mainly peach-golden, although there are Angora with black or red stripes.
Keeping angora hamsters and caring for them
Long hair is both a joy for the owner and a special responsibility. You will have to take care of your hamster every day. If the pet is not combed out with a soft brush, the coat will get tangled and become dirty, ugly. So that the baby can take care of himself, put a bath of clean sand in the cage.
In order for a long-haired hamster to be comfortable, he needs to provide special conditions for keeping:
- instead of wood chips, it is better to cover the bottom of the cage with compressed wood pellets;
- the running wheel should be large, at least 20 cm in diameter, since the Angora breed is very large;
- The stomach of this hamster breed is very sensitive, so special attention should be paid to nutrition.
Include boiled meat, real cottage cheese, fresh fruits, vegetables, and cereals in your pet’s diet. He especially loves flaxseeds, oats and corn, loves pumpkin and eggplant. You cannot feed the animal from your table, give it citrus fruits, onions, cheese and potatoes.
Angora hamsters cannot stand not only bathing, but also any drafts. They catch colds easily, which shortens the life span of animals. Therefore, the cage should be placed in a dry and warm room.
Fluffy beauties, Angora hamsters, with good care, can live for three, or even all four years. You will have to take care of their long hair daily. In return, these adorable rodents will bring joy to the owner every day.
