Throat infections in children are one of the most common health problems. One of the diseases associated with a throat infection is angina, which is an infectious disease that occurs most often in children between 4 and 7 years of age. What are the symptoms and causes of strep throat in children? How to treat angina in the youngest?
Symptoms of angina in children
Angina in children usually appears suddenly, and its symptoms begin quite rapidly. The first symptom of angina in children is a very severe sore throat, which makes it difficult for children to swallow, resulting in a loss of appetite. Another symptom of angina in children is high fever and chills caused by it. During angina, children can notice clearly enlarged, red and painful lymph nodes and tonsils, which also have a raid on them. In the case of angina in children, which is caused by a viral infection, symptoms such as stuffy nose and cough may also occur. In some cases, children who have strep throat may develop additional symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting or mucus-like stools.
Find out if it’s strep throat and take the Angina Home Test – ANGINA STREP A. It is available on Medonet Market.

The causes of angina in children
Angina is the most common bacterial throat infection that can be infected by droplets throughout the period of acute symptoms in a sick person. A child whose immunity is lowered can catch strep throat very quickly in kindergarten or school. Most often, angina in children is the result of purulent streptococcus infection, which is infected from peers, because this disease is the most common disease in nurseries and kindergartens.
Bacterial angina in children most often develops about 2-5 days after infection, whereas viral angina within 1-3 days. Most cases of angina in children occur in late fall, winter and spring. On the other hand, it also happens that angina affects children in hot weather, when the throat tissues have been rapidly cooled, e.g. while eating cold ice cream or drinking a cold drink. Under the influence of cold, the blood vessels of the pharynx mucosa contract, causing the bacteria in the mouth to penetrate more easily, multiply and cause angina.
Treatment of angina in children
Treatment of strep throat in children depends on the type of throat infection. In most cases, angina in children is viral, and therefore only anti-inflammatory agents, antipyretics and measures to prevent pain when swallowing are given to the child. If bacterial strep throat is confirmed during the examination, it is necessary to treat the child with an antibiotic. Failure to treat bacterial angina in children can lead to the development of serious complications such as sepsis, shock, rheumatic fever, and even heart damage.
To relieve pain during angina in children, you can make warm compresses on the lymph nodes, gargle with sage or chamomile. A child suffering from angina should be given crushed and easily digestible meals. Food should be cool or slightly warm in the form of porridge or mush. Angina in children causes a very high fever, as a result of which the child loses a lot of water, so remember to give plenty of cooled drinks.
