Anemia during pregnancy – can anemia cause fetal defects?

Can anemia cause fetal defects?

Could anemia or anorexia (occurring in the past but already healed) affect my pregnancy? If so, which one? What fetal defects can be detected in the first trimester? – Agatha

Once the patient has fully healed, anemia and anorexia should not have an impact on the pregnancy if the person is in fact healthy.

On the other hand, prenatal examination is a test that assesses the risk of chromosomal defects in the fetus, i.e. Down’s syndrome. In addition, we evaluate the structure of organs, of course, as is possible at this stage, we can recognize, e.g. skullcap, large spina bifida, abdominal hernias, gastritis, limb defects / agenesis, we see if we can see the stomach and bladder, location of the heart and initial structure, heart rate. We assess the gestational age, the location of the chorion, i.e. what then transforms into the placenta, and the amount of amniotic fluid.
