Director Andrey Zvyagintsev
He was born on February 6, 1964 in the city of Novosibirsk. Mother is a teacher of Russian language and literature. My father served as a policeman.

The beginning of the creative path
After serving, he makes a firm decision to continue his studies in Moscow. GITIS, acting department (workshop of Evgeny Lazarev). He graduated from his studies in 1990, but he was in no hurry to work in the theater.
In those years, the young man managed to become disillusioned with the theater. He believed that “the theater began to release a ‘product’, instead of doing art”
Then he decided to start writing stories, but this occupation did not inspire him. After that there was a serious hobby for cinema. I had to act in films a little. The most popular serials are “Kamenskaya” and “Let’s Know”. He also starred in the famous film by Vladimir Menshov “Shyrli-myrli”.
He reviewed retrospectives of famous directors: Kurosawa, Godard, Antonioni and others.
The 90s were difficult economically for the country. Many were not up to the cinema; accordingly, there were few people willing to finance the shooting. Zvyagintsev had to work as a janitor until 1993.
This made it possible to receive money, albeit small. Finally, he received service housing, which was close to the theater. Mayakovsky. This mansion was a former noble estate, built in 1825.
The next seven years passed in the filming of commercials, which also allowed him to exist at the very least. Thanks to them, the whole world soon learned about the talented director. Namely, Dmitry Lesnevsky drew attention to him. At the time, he was working as a producer for the television channel Ren-TV.

In 2003, the film “The Return” was released. Zvyagintsev became famous. He was awarded the Nika and Golden Lion film awards. The film was noted as the best in the nomination “directorial debut”, he received two “Golden Eagles”.
In the picture, a leisurely development of the plot takes place, large landscapes and plans are involved, rather long shooting. All this was far from modern cinema, from what the viewer was used to.
But it was the director’s attitude, on which the shooting of the picture was based. Initially, the film’s distributors and critics passed a verdict – unreported. They believed that this picture could not seem interesting to a wide range of viewers.
But the picture was released, and in just two weeks it raised 260 thousand dollars. This is despite the fact that the budget of the picture was half a million dollars.
The start was great. 32 countries wanted to rent the film, it was the sensation of the year. In total, 28 awards were presented to the young director at the festivals. The film was seen by viewers of 73 countries of the world.
Leviathan
In 2014, the next work by screenwriter and director Zvyagintsev, the social drama Leviathan, was released. She has also received numerous awards. One of the awards received was the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The Oscar was received in the same category.
The film starred: Elena Lyadova, Alexey Serebryakov, Vladimir Vdovichenkov and others.

In 2017, Andrei Zvyagintsev made a film in the genre of the Melodrama “Dislike”. The picture was awarded the Prize from the jury at the Cannes Film Festival. In the same year, the film was released widely.
