Anafalis pearl – a herb for open ground

Anafalis is beautiful for its lush bushes. It is especially good next to blue and red flowers or ornamental greenery.

This perennial is a representative of 35 species of similar plants of the Aster family. It lives in Asia and North America. Feels good in temperate climates.

Anaphalis flowers are vaguely similar to chamomile

The roots of this plant are creeping, they quickly form lateral processes. The tall, erect trunk can reach up to 1 m. The stem is covered with gray pubescence. Dense leaves have a gray fibrous bloom above, and a red-brown pubescence below. The shape of the leaves is lanceolate, their length is about 10 cm. The inflorescences are collected in bunches. Each flower is framed with a fleecy wrap of leaves. The middle of the flower is a yellow cluster of stamens. Distantly, the inflorescence resembles a chamomile flower with many petals forming a “cap”. The plant blooms from June to September.

It is unpretentious. Its main requirement is good drainage and a well-lit place. But if it still somehow endures the shadow, then waterlogging will cause rotting of the roots. Therefore, it must be watered carefully. It grows well on sandy soils.

Anaphalis as herbaceous plants for open ground

The plant hibernates in the open field without any problems. They love to use it to decorate garden plots. Thanks to its creeping rhizome, the plant rapidly occupies all the space allotted to it. At the same time, it covers the entire surface of the flower bed with white caps of flowers.

Modest inflorescences are so tightly adjacent to each other that from a distance they look like a scattering of pearls, this allows the bush to be used as a separate decorative element. Various applications of these plants in design are possible:

  • bushes can be planted along the paths;
  • flowers look great in flowerpots or flower beds;
  • the plant looks good in mixborders, provided that the growth of its roots is limited;
  • compositions combining roses or gladioli with these flowers will serve as a real decoration of the holidays;
  • perennials included in dried flowers will add air and volume to the bouquets.

When planting together with other flowers, it is necessary to protect the roots of the perennial with metal sheets or plant it in a pots with good drainage.

Such fast-growing bushes can be propagated by layering, dividing rhizomes or seeds through seedlings.

Unpretentious elegant bushes look charming in the sunny meadows of summer cottages. And it is simply impossible to take your eyes off the lush compositions in cut bouquets.
