An unusual variety of apples was bred in Italy – red inside

Red apples are not only outside, but also inside – this sort of apple was developed in Italy by Clementi Srl and Bio Meran.

The Agro-Center portal told about the new product. It became known that the variety was named Red Moon and almost instantly became popular with consumers.

Jurgen Braun, co-owner of the partner company of Red Moon – Kiku Variety Management, spoke about how apples entered the market: “We showed and gave taste of freshly picked fruits to many buyers of regular trade and modern distribution from different countries. The attractive red flesh color and high anthocyanin content make this apple attractive to consumer trends. Red Moon doesn’t really compete with the already crowded category of apples, but is another fruit that sits halfway between apple and berries or pomegranates. ”

The developers also explained that Red Moon is the only brand with 100% red apples made in Italy so far. Now 100 hectares have been set aside for this variety in the most suitable areas of Alto Adige and Veneto. This year, they harvested 1,5 thousand tons of apples.

In the near future, the supply of this apple variety will begin to Germany, the Benelux countries and Scandinavia.
