Often a foreign object ends up in the drum of an automatic washing machine. If it spins there with clothes, then this does not pose a danger to the typewriter. Another thing is if it is stuck in the tank – in this case, you need to undertake a campaign to remove the item so that the washing machine does not fail prematurely.
How to get a foreign object out of the washing machine without the help of a specialist, we will describe below.
How foreign objects get into the washing machine
To get an item that is stuck in the tank, you need to understand how it got there:
- Usually small things fall into the drum from pockets if you forget to check them.
- Also, poorly sewn buttons and other decor can come off clothes.
- Paper, coins, chains, lighters, flash drives often remain in pockets. Sometimes users even forget to take out their phone. These items usually stay in the tank, some goes into the drain system and ends up in the drain filter.
- The greatest danger is the bone from the bra. This element of the bra is thin and flexible, so it easily gets under the drum through the holes and stays there, creating noise and grinding.
- Large debris and small items, such as a sock or a handkerchief, are unlikely to fall into the tank, but they can be squeezed by a rubber cuff – and if washed too intensively, they will also go inside the tank.
- Small things can go down into the tank through the detergent intake.
Important! Often the reason that a foreign object is stuck in the CMA is a large gap between the tank body and the drum.
Everything that fell into the tank goes this way:
- sinks to the very bottom of the tank;
- gets stuck in the tank;
- can wrap around the shaft.
How to get an item out of the washing machine
If everything happens in the first minutes of washing, then just cancel the mode:
- hold the start (or pause) key to stop the cycle;
- hold the start button again for 5 seconds;
- wait until the pump has pumped out all the water, after which the SM will turn off, and you can get the forgotten thing.
On a note:
- In vertical machines, it is enough to press a pause, open the hatch and remove the excess without draining the water – this is convenient and saves time and resources.
- In some models of automatic machines, the water does not drain automatically, so manual draining is required. To do this, use an emergency drain (a small hose near the drain filter or the filter itself if there is no hose). Until you drain the water, the hatch will not open.
If stuck in the tank
Getting a thing that has already managed to get into the tank is somewhat more difficult. But you still need to get it. Even soft objects, such as a sock or a nylon stocking, can do a lot of damage to the machine by wrapping around the pump or shaft. You can remove a foreign body through:
- “garbage” filter;
- groove for the heater.
If the object is small, then it will fall into the filter through the drain pipe and to remove it, just unscrew the filter element and remove the object.
And if the object has sunk to the bottom of the tank, you can take it out through the hole for the thermoelectric heater. The bones of the bra can get under the heating element and stay there: then you will not hear them. If they knock, then they are stuck between the heater tubes.
Very rarely, a bone can get into the opening of the drum, but not fall out into the tank. Gently feel the drum from the inside with your hand, it may be enough to pull it out of the hole.
To decide which side to start disassembling the SMA, you need to know where the heating element is located in your model. In the vast majority of brands, the heater is located at the back, and in the minority (Bosch, Siemens, AEG), in order to get the heater, you need to remove the front panel.
If you cannot decide where the part is located, inspect the back wall – if the service hatch is of impressive size, then the heater is right there.
Remove the item. How to remove it, you will learn on the page “How to replace the heating element in the SM”. Do this carefully so as not to damage the heater seat.
After you get the part, take a flashlight to find and remove the item. To do this, build a small wire hook with which you can pick up the item you are looking for.
Important! If the thing has already managed to wrap itself around the shaft, then you will have to carry out a major disassembly of the washer. In this case, you need to follow the instructions on the page “How to remove and disassemble the washing machine tank”. If in your model the tank is non-separable – glued, then the process will require sawing and subsequent gluing of the tank. Since this is a complex task, we advise you to entrust it to specialists. And if you are confident in your abilities, you have plenty of information on how to pull out a foreign object. Good luck!
