Amotax granules

Amotax granules is a systemic antibacterial agent. It is a beta-lactam antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. The active substance is amoxicillin. Amotax granules in the form of granules for oral suspension are available on prescription.

Indications for taking Amotaks granules

Amotax granules is a drug whose active ingredient is amoxicillin. It is used to treat the following infections caused by bacteria sensitive to amoxicillin:

  1. upper and lower respiratory tract infections,
  2. urinary tract infections
  3. skin and soft tissue infections,
  4. acute, uncomplicated gonorrhea,
  5. dental infections,
  6. early-stage Lyme disease,
  7. eradication Helicobacter pylori (one of the elements of multi-drug therapy),
  8. prevention of endocarditis.

Amotax granules and contraindications

Contraindications to taking Amotaks granules are:

  1. hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of the preparation or to other beta-lactam antibiotics (other penicillins, cephalosporins),
  2. infectious mononucleosis.

Dosage Amotaks granules

Infections of the respiratory tract.

  1. Adults and children weighing more than 40 kg: 1,5-2 g twice / day or 2 g three times / day.
  2. Children weighing less than 40 kg: 40-90 mg / kg body weight in 2-3 divided doses Maximum dose 3 g / day.

Acute, uncomplicated gonorrhea.

  1. Adults and children weighing more than 40 kg: 3 g each.

Prevention of endocarditis.

  1. Adults and children weighing more than 40 kg: Dental treatment. 2 g 30-60 minutes before the procedure. Other surgical procedures in people at risk of endocarditis – please refer to your local official guidance on the prevention of endocarditis.
  2. Children weighing less than 40 kg: 50 mg / kg body weight 1 hour before the planned surgery.

Early-stage Lyme disease.

  1. Adults and children weighing more than 40 kg: 0,5-1 g 3 × / day for 10-21 days.
  2. Children weighing less than 40 kg: 25-50 mg / kg body weight / day for 10-21 days.

Eradication H. pylori.

  1. Adults and children weighing more than 40 kg: The drug is used in a combination therapy regimen with other drugs.

Urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, dental infections.

  1. Adults and children weighing more than 40 kg: Usually 0,75-3 g / day in 2-3 divided doses; in severe infections, the dose may be increased to 6 g / day.
  2. Children weighing less than 40 kg: 40-90 mg / kg body weight / day in 2-3 divided doses Maximum dose 3 g / day.

Administer orally, regardless of meals. It is recommended to drink Amotaks granules suspension with a glass of water, in the case of children – with plenty of milk or tea. Usually, treatment should be continued for 2-3 days after symptoms have resolved (except for gonorrhea). In streptococcal infections, the drug should be used for at least 10 days. In people with creatinine clearance: 10-30 ml / min 500 mg every 12 hours in adults and the usual dose every 12 hours in children, <10 ml / min 500 mg every 24 hours in adults and the usual dose every 24 hours in children.

Amotax granules – warnings

  1. Before using the drug, consult your doctor if you suspect or have been diagnosed with: viral infections, lymphocytic leukemia or mononucleosis, renal dysfunction, convulsions (now or in the past), epilepsy, meningitis, gastrointestinal diseases, especially colitis.
  2. Caution should be exercised when Amotax granules are used in children, infants or premature babies. Monitoring of renal function, liver and haematological parameters is recommended.
  3. There is no information on the effect of the drug on the ability to drive and use machines.
  4. If at the beginning of the treatment with Amotaks granules you develop generalized erythema with pustules and accompanying fever, consult a doctor immediately.
  5. You should drink plenty of fluids while taking this medicine to prevent precipitation of amoxycycline crystals in the urine.
  6. Patients with hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take Amotaks granules.
  7. Pregnant and lactating women may take the drug after consulting a doctor and if necessary.

Amotax granules – interactions

Please inform your doctor if you are taking:

  1. allopurynol,
  2. digoxin,
  3. oral anticoagulants (e.g. warfarin)
  4. methotrexate,
  5. oral hormonal contraceptives.

Amotax granules – side effects

Amotax granules may cause, inter alia: superinfections with resistant bacteria or yeasts as a result of prolonged and repeated use of amoxicillin (e.g. fungal infections of the oral and vaginal mucosa), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, flatulence, rash (especially around the mouth), dry mouth , taste disturbances, slight and transient increases in liver enzymes (AST, ALT), rash, measles-like rash, itching, hives (consult your doctor if you experience urticaria immediately after starting treatment).
