Amoeboma (amoebic tumor of the colon) – what is it?

Amoeboma (amoebic tumor of the colon)

About 1% of patients with intestinal amoebiasis develop a large granuloma (a tumor of the grain mass) that impedes passage, over time narrows or closes the lumen of the intestine, requiring differentiation from neoplastic processes. Amoeboma can occur in any part of the large intestine, but most often occurs in the cecum. The lesion often occurs during amoebic dysentery. In these cases, amoeboma is not a big diagnostic problem.
