Americans are surprised at how we wash our clothes, and here’s why

There is one small detail that puzzles them.

They say all people are brothers. And we will add – very different from each other. There are so many differences between our mistresses and the American ones that sometimes it seems as if we are from different planets. We are shocked by overseas everyday habits, and they are no less surprised by ours. To begin with, not every American apartment has a washing machine. Why, if you can always go to the laundry? But even if there is a machine, the approach to washing is somewhat different from ours.

It turns out that the Americans are very surprised by the presence of … dryers in their apartments. We have them in almost every city apartment, because drying clothes on the balcony is possible only if you have a glazed loggia, and on the street – only if you live in a village. Therefore, you have to hang sheets and T-shirts on a special grid. And it’s good if you have somewhere to put it, otherwise it spoils the whole view.

In houses on the ground, this is easier – you can hang your laundry outside, and the sun will do all the work in a couple of hours. And this fact is also very surprising to Americans – so much so that a girl named Miranda Blakeslee even posted a video on TikTok asking why people need these fancy devices in their homes and ropes in their yards.

“Is the dryer unfashionable?” She asks.

The absence of tumble dryers in homes seemed incredibly strange to Miranda. Agree, we have this a real rarity, because the dryer is not cheap, it takes up a lot of space, then the washing machine itself would be crammed somewhere. Yes, and it probably consumes electricity a lot, you can go broke on the accounts. And in America it is in the order of things – to take out the laundry from the washing machine, transfer it to the drying room, and after half an hour put things on the shelves or send them for ironing.

But it was Miranda who hadn’t heard about boiling linen yet! Imagine how shocked she would be to get rid of stubborn stains this way. However, this is one of those everyday habits that we already seem to be savage.
