Ambrosol PLIVA – indications and dosage

Ambrosol Pliva is a syrup intended for the treatment of acute and chronic respiratory diseases accompanied by sticky bronchial secretions:

  1. bronchitis,
  2. bronchial asthma,
  3. cystic fibrosis,
  4. emphysema,
  5. bronchiectasis.

Drug dosage

The preparation is in the form of a syrup for oral use. Take the medicine with or after a meal. After 7-14 days of treatment, the dose of the preparation should be reduced.

  1. Adults and children over 12 years of age. Initially, for 2-3 days, 30 mg three times daily, then 3 mg twice daily.
  2. Kids. 1.-2. years of age 7,5 mg twice / day.
  3. Children 2-6. years of age 7,5 mg three times / day.
  4. Children 6-12. years of age 15 mg 2-3 times / day.

Ambrosol Pliva and contraindications

Contraindication to taking Ambrosol Pliva is allergic to:

  1. ambroxol,
  2. bromhexine,
  3. any ingredient of the preparation.

Ambrosol Pliva – warnings

  1. Patients with gastric or duodenal ulcer disease and liver or kidney failure should exercise caution and consult a doctor to reduce the daily dose or extend the time between doses.
  2. Patients with a weakened cough reflex or with impaired ciliary clearance of the bronchi should be careful as there is a risk of mucus retention.
  3. You should not use antitussive drugs while taking the drug.
  4. At the beginning of taking the drug, liquid bronchial discharge may appear. In this situation, cough up the thin secretion or suck it out (especially in young children and in severely immobilized patients).
  5. Patients with bronchial asthma may experience increased cough and excessive expectoration.
  6. Stop taking the drug and see a doctor if you notice changes to the skin or mucous membranes, as severe skin reactions may occur (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis).
  7. Patients with fructose intolerance should not take the preparation because it contains sorbitol.
  8. The sorbitol contained in the drug may induce diarrhea.
  9. The drug contains methyl and propyl parahydroxybenzoate and propylene glycol, which may cause allergic reactions.
  10. Pregnant and breastfeeding women may take the drug only after consulting a doctor and when the doctor determines that the benefit for the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.
  11. There is no information on the effect of the preparation on the ability to drive and use machines.

Ambrosol Pliva with other medications

  1. Do not take antitussive drugs simultaneously with the preparation, because Ambrosol Pliva removes a large amount of the secretion formed.
  2. Ambroxol should not be administered simultaneously with drugs that inhibit mucus secretion.
  3. Taking Ambrosol Pliva with the following antibiotics: amoxicillin, cefuroxime, doxycycline, erythromycin, increases their penetration into the lung and bronchial tissue and intensifies their effect.

Ambrosol Pliva – side effects

Ambrosol Pliva may cause the following side effects:

  1. stomach pain,
  2. nausea and constipation
  3. heartburn,
  4. vomiting,
  5. indigestion,
  6. hypersensitivity reactions: rash, itching, breathing problems,
  7. anaphylactic reactions: face swelling, dyspnoea, increased temperature, anaphylactic shock,
  8. severe skin reactions: Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis.
