Ambrosan

Ambrosan is used as an adjunct in acute and chronic diseases of the respiratory system with abnormal secretion and difficult expectoration of bronchial secretions (bronchial asthma, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, bronchitis), inflammation of the larynx, mucosa of the nose, throat, sinuses, facilitating rehabilitation during the pre-rehabilitation period and postoperative.

Ambrosan – indications and dosage

Ambrosan tablets are recommended for the adjunctive treatment of acute and chronic respiratory diseases, which are accompanied by abnormal secretion and difficult expectoration of bronchial secretions:

  1. bronchial asthma,
  2. bronchiectasis
  3. cystic fibrosis,
  4. bronchitis,
  5. laryngitis,
  6. inflammation of the lining of the nose, throat and sinuses,

the drug also facilitates pre- and postoperative rehabilitation.

Drug dosage

Ambrosan is in the form of tablets to be taken by mouth. Do not exceed the recommended dose of the preparation, as it may pose a threat to your life or health. Patients with renal insufficiency or severe hepatic impairment should use lower doses or increase the dosing interval.

  1. Adults 30 mg three times a day, after 3-2 days of use – 3 mg twice a day.
  2. Children> 6. years of age 15 mg twice / day.

Ambrosan and contraindications

A contraindication to taking Ambrosan is an allergy to any of the ingredients.

Ambrosan – restrictions on the drug

  1. Caution should be exercised in patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers and with hepatic or renal insufficiency. It is recommended in this group of patients to consult a doctor and reduce the daily dose of the drug (or extend the interval between doses).
  2. Patients with impaired cough reflex and impaired ciliary clearance should exercise caution as there is a risk of mucus retention.
  3. Cough suppressants should not be used simultaneously with Ambrosan.
  4. At the beginning of taking the preparation, an excessive amount of liquid bronchial secretion may appear. In this situation, provoke expectoration or suction of secretions.
  5. Patients with bronchial asthma at the beginning of treatment with the drug may be exposed to increased cough and excessive expectoration.
  6. Do not take the drug immediately before going to bed.
  7. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before using the drug. They may take the medicine only when absolutely necessary and when the physician considers that the benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.

Ambrosan with other drugs

  1. Inform your doctor about all recently taken medications.
  2. Antitussive preparations should not be used at the same time, as they promote the removal of a large amount of secretion produced.
  3. The use of Ambrosan with other preparations recommended for the treatment of bronchial diseases, e.g. cardiac glycosides, corticosteroids, diuretics, bronchodilators, antibiotics, should be done after consulting a doctor.
  4. Taking Ambrosan with antibiotics such as amoxicillin, cefuroxime, doxycycline, erythromycin, increases their penetration into the lung tissue and intensifies their effect.
  5. Caffeine and ambroxol intensify their effect on each other.

Ambrosan – side effects

Treatment with Ambrosan may cause the following side effects:

  1. stomach pain,
  2. nausea and constipation
  3. heartburn,
  4. vomiting,
  5. indigestion,
  6. hypersensitivity reactions: rash, itching, breathing problems,
  7. anaphylactic reactions: face swelling, dyspnoea, increased temperature, anaphylactic shock,

rarely:

  1. dry mouth and respiratory tract,
  2. difficult urination,
  3. headaches,
  4. increased salivation,
  5. runny nose.
