Ambrohexal S is used in acute and chronic respiratory diseases with difficulty expectoration of excessively thick secretions. The preparation is also recommended in the treatment of bronchitis, bronchial asthma and cystic fibrosis. The drug is an oral fluid and is available without a prescription.

Ambrohexal S – indications and dosage

Ambrohexal S is an oral fluid recommended for treatment acute and chronic respiratory diseases:

  1. bronchitis,
  2. bronchial asthma with disorders of expectoration of secretions,
  3. bronchiectasis,
  4. cystic fibrosis,

auxiliary:

  1. in inflammation of the nasopharynx,
  2. in pulmonary rehabilitation in the pre- and postoperative period.

Drug dosage

Ambrohexal S is in the form of an oral fluid. You should consume the drug after meals. Patients with severe renal insufficiency should reduce the dose or extend the time between doses.

  1. Adults and children after 12 years of age, initially 30 mg three times a day for 3-2 days, then 3 mg three times a day or 15 mg twice a day.
  2. Kids. Up to the age of 2 – 7,5 mg twice daily,
  3. 2-5. years of age – 7,5 mg 3 × / day,
  4. 6.-12. years of age -15 mg 2-3 times / day.

Ambrohexal S and contraindications

Contraindication to taking Ambrohexal S is allergy to any component of the preparation.

Ambrohexal S – warnings

  1. Patients with impaired cough reflex or with impaired ciliary clearance of the bronchi should be careful because there is a risk of secretion retention.
  2. Patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers should exercise caution.
  3. Ambrohexal S may increase cough and excessive expectoration in patients with bronchial asthma.
  4. Consume plenty of fluids during treatment with the drug.

Ambrohexal S with other drugs

  1. Antitussive drugs should not be taken simultaneously with the preparation, because they promote the removal of a large amount of secretion formed after liquefaction. Cough suppressants may cause secretions to accumulate. Ask your doctor for advice before taking any antitussive medicine.
  2. Taking the preparation with antibiotics such as: amoxicillin, cefuroxime, doxycycline, erythromycin increases their penetration into the tissues of the bronchial tree.
  3. Ambroxol and theophylline mutually enhance their effect.

Ambrohexal S – side effects

Taking Ambrohexal S can cause:

  1. allergic reactions,
  2. skin and mucosal reactions,
  3. swollen face
  4. dyspnoea,
  5. increase in body temperature,
  6. chills,

rarely:

  1. stomach pain,
  2. nausea and constipation
  3. dry mouth and airways
  4. increased salivation,
  5. runny nose
  6. difficulty urinating
  7. hypersensitivity reactions to the preservatives contained in the preparation (p-hydroxybenzoates).
