Alumag

Alumag is a drug used in gastric hyperacidity, inflammation of the esophagus and gastric mucosa, heartburn, indigestion, reflux oesophagitis, hiatus hernia and as an aid in gastric and duodenal ulcer disease.

ACTION

Alumag is a combined preparation that neutralizes gastric juice.

Alumag – indications and dosage

Alumag is a medicine used in:

  1. gastric acidity,
  2. inflammation of the mucous membranes of the esophagus and stomach,
  3. heartburn
  4. indigestion,
  5. reflux oesophagitis,
  6. hiatal hernia,
  7. stomach and duodenal ulcers (as an alternative).

Dosage

Alumag is in the form of tablets or a suspension. The tablets should be crushed or chewed, the suspension should be shaken before use. Do not exceed the recommended doses of the drug, as it may harm your life or health.

  1. Orally; 2 tablets or 1 tablespoon of the suspension 3 × / day 1,5 h after meals and at bedtime.
  2. You should take max. 12 tablespoons / day or 6 tablespoons / day.

Alumag and contraindications

Contraindications to taking Alumag are:

  1. allergy to any ingredient of the preparation,
  2. severe renal failure.

Alumag – warnings

  1. If there is no improvement during the use of the drug, a doctor should be consulted.
  2. Do not use the drug for more than 4 weeks.
  3. Caution is advised in people with renal insufficiency, children under 6 years of age, and patients undergoing dialysis. Accumulation of magnesium and aluminum ions may occur, and long-term use may aggravate or cause the process of softening of the bones or increase the possibility of the appearance of encephalopathy.
  4. Taking this medicine may lead to kidney failure due to the storage of magnesium ammonium phosphate.
  5. People with fructose intolerance should not use the preparation due to the content of sorbitol.
  6. The suspension may cause allergic reactions because it contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate and propyl parahydroxybenzoate.
  7. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before using the preparation.
  8. Caution should be exercised in women in the first trimester of pregnancy.
  9. The preparation should not be used for a long time.

Alumag with other drugs

Alumag reduces the absorption of:

  1. tetracycline,
  2. non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,
  3. iron
  4. anti-rheumatic drugs.

These drugs should be taken 2 hours (in the case of fluoroquinolones, more than 4 hours) before taking the preparation or 1 hour after its use.

Alumag – side effects

While taking Alumag, the following may appear:

  1. constipation
  2. diarrhea
  3. nausea,
  4. vomiting,
  5. bright discoloration of the feces.

Long-term use or taking too high doses of the preparation causes:

  1. kidney failure
  2. softening of bones,
  3. encephalopathy (impaired brain function).
