Alpragen is a preparation that affects the central nervous system. It has a sleep-inducing, anxiolytic and sedative effect. It has found application in the treatment of sudden and short-term anxiety states.
Alpragen – leaflet
The main ingredient of Alpragen is alprazolam (alprazolamum). The drug is used in the treatment of short-term anxiety conditions causing impaired functioning of the patient. Alprazolam has anxiolytic properties, while maintaining muscle tension-alleviating, anticonvulsant, sedative and hypnotic properties. After oral administration, alprazolam is rapidly excreted from the gastrointestinal tract.
Contraindications
The most important contraindications are hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines or any of the excipients, as well as muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis), severe respiratory failure, sleep apnea syndrome, severe liver failure, acute intoxication with alcohol or other substances, and glaucoma. Children and adolescents under 18 years of age must not take the drug.
Dosage of Alpragen
Alpragen is taken orally. The standard dose is 0,25 mg to 0,5 mg three times a day. The dose of the drug can be modified depending on the patient’s condition, but it is recommended to use the lowest possible one that gives the right results. Increasing the dose requires an interval of at least 3 days between successive higher doses. In case of undesirable symptoms, the dose should be reduced.
It is recommended to use the drug after consulting a doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. Do not use Alpragen without discussing with your doctor the possible risks and benefits of its use.
If alprazolam is used systematically in the last trimester of pregnancy, the baby may become dependent on alprazolam and may experience withdrawal symptoms after birth. If the doctor decides to use alprazolam in an advanced stage of pregnancy or during labor, the baby may experience undesirable symptoms such as low body temperature, laxity, breathing and feeding difficulties. Do not take Alpragen while breastfeeding as it may pass into breast milk.
