Alopecia areata – our doctor’s opinion

As part of its quality approach, Passeportsanté.net invites you to discover the opinion of a health professional. Dr Dominic Larose, emergency physician, gives you his opinion on the alopecia areata :

Alopecia areata that affects only one or two well-defined areas of the scalp is fairly easy to diagnose by a family doctor. However, it must be ensured that this hair loss is not of infectious origin. If so, the affected area will be a little red and scaly. A treatment can then be proposed.

Otherwise, in the case of a mild alopecia areata, I suggest simply observing the situation without special medical intervention. The simple fact of knowing that after 1 year everything is back to normal is enough most of the time!

A reference in dermatology is of great help in any case where the diagnosis is uncertain or if the disease is more extensive.
