The Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology in Warsaw is the only department of child psychiatry in the capital. Five out of six specialists want to resign from work there, as reported by Gazeta Wyborcza. This means that the already dramatic situation of child psychiatry in the country will become even worse.

Clinic at ul. Sobieskiego 9 in Mokotów, it is the only branch in Warsaw psychiatrychildish. There are 28 places in it, but this limit is constantly exceeded – as reported by the journalists of Gazeta Wyborcza, on September 30, there were 40 patients at the institute.

Who will help the children?
As noted by the head of the clinic, Dr. Barbara Remberk, MD, PhD the departure of the doctors means the end of the clinic – the only children’s psychiatry ward in Warsaw – There are five such branches throughout Mazovia and Podlasie. Two for children and three for youth. Our patients will not be prescribed to them, because each of them is bursting at the seams. The results can be dire, he predicts.

And children in Poland need psychiatric help. According to the data of the Police Headquarters, in 2020, 834 suicide attempts among young people aged 13-18 were registered. Every eighth attempt ended in death.
The NIK report confirms these data. Child psychiatry in Poland is going through a real crisis. There is no day psychiatric ward in five provinces. About 300 psychiatrists are missing. Additionally, out of 419 specialists, as many as one third of doctors are over 55 years old.
