What is almond peeling for the face

Almond peeling is a chemical effect on the skin with mandelic or phenyl glycolic acid. It is extracted by hydrolysis from bitter almond kernels.

Bitter almonds are not suitable for eating, but for cosmetic needs it is very useful.

Mechanism of action

Mandelic acid belongs to the group of fruit acids (ANAs), distinguished by the size of the molecules: they are eight times larger than glycolic acid molecules. This does not allow them to “dive” deep into the epidermis, the main work is carried out in its upper layers. How do mandelic acid molecules work?

  • Destroy the adhesion between corneocytes, contributing to the exfoliation of dead cells and smoothing the skin microrelief.

Types of almond peeling

With a certain degree of conventionality, two types of almond peeling can be distinguished.

Surface

  • The peeling composition contains only mandelic acid.

  • The formula includes a low concentration of the working substance.

Median

  • In addition to mandelic acid, the composition for median peeling includes other, more aggressive acids, most often glycolic and salicylic.

  • The formula has a higher content of the working substance.

In terms of the number of procedures, the course of “nut” peeling practically does not differ from the number of sessions with the participation of its fruit counterparts: on average, 8-10 “approaches” are required.

  2. Toning and degreasing with 10% mandelic acid.

  3. Pre-peeling stage: a preparation with phenoxyglycolic, glycolic or lactic acids in a low concentration (up to 5%) is applied to the skin.

  4. Peeling stage: application of a preparation based on pure mandelic acid (from 10%). The concentration is determined by the cosmetologist in accordance with the condition of the skin.

  5. Neutralization of peeling with a neutralizing agent.

  6. Apply a soothing cream or mask appropriate to your skin type.

Mandelic acid in increasing concentration is already used during cleansing and at the pre-peeling stage. Other acids are sometimes used. Therefore, the effect is more obvious.
