Almond acid belongs to the AHA group of acids and has invaluable properties as a peeling agent. It is one of the gentler acids that, in addition to exfoliating, slightly moisturize the skin. AHA acids are naturally occurring in nature, they are obtained from natural resources. Thanks to chemical synthesis, in addition to mandelic acid, acid is obtained, among others lactic and glycolic. AHA acids, including mandelic acid, are perfect for fighting acne, skin aging and scars.
Properties, action and effects of using mandelic acid
As mentioned above, mandelic acid, in addition to exfoliating the skin, has a moisturizing effect. It helps to maintain a radiant skin condition, has antibacterial properties and fights the signs of aging. Almond acid is mainly used in chemical peels, and treatments with its use are carried out mainly in autumn and winter, when the skin is not in excessive contact with solar radiation.
Sometimes it is used in much lower concentrations than in peeling, as an ingredient in creams, masks and tonics. In addition to reducing scars and wrinkles, mandelic acid helps to stimulate the production of collagen in the skin, making it firmer and more elastic. It has a strong refreshing effect. Reach for the Bioherba peeling set (enzyme peeling + neutralizer), which contains, among others, almond acid.
Almond acid significantly improves the skin tone by brightening it, regulates seborrhea and helps in the fight against acne. As one of the relatively mild substances, mandelic acid is considered safe for most skin types. Contraindication to the use of chemical peels with its content is the skin’s susceptibility to allergies, pregnancy and lactation, acute acne conditions and skin wounds.
Particular caution when using mandelic acid is recommended for people with very sensitive skin, but side effects are not reported too often, especially if the acid concentration is properly selected. When mandelic acid (as well as other chemical peels) is left on the skin for too long, it can cause burns, redness and irritation.
Almond acid increases sensitivity to the effects of UV rays, so after the treatment it is recommended to apply creams with high sun filters and avoid exposure to the sun.
Almond acid can be found, among others in Correcting Cream with AHA and PHA Balance T-zone FLOSLEK acids or in DERMO EXPERT® Normalizing Night Acid Peeling of the same brand.
Treatments with almond acid at home
Almond acid is available on the cosmetic market as an intermediate for self-preparation of chemical peels at home. Special precautions should be taken and the indications regarding the time of leaving it on the skin, appropriate proportions and frequency of treatments should be strictly adhered to. It is best to apply it with a brush or cotton pad.
During a self-treatment procedure, you should carefully observe your skin and keep an eye on the peeling time. The higher the concentration of mandelic acid, the stronger its effect, so before starting the treatment with mandelic acid, it is recommended to get the skin used to it using creams or tonics with a low content. The best results are achieved by a series of treatments in the fall and winter (3-5 times) at intervals of at least 14-21 days.
On the other hand, for hair, we recommend a smoothing conditioner with almond oil and flax extract from Zielone Laboratorium, available at Medonet Market.
Almond acid – reviews
Reviews on the use of mandelic acid are overwhelmingly positive. As a rule, those who use it praise the quick, visible lightening of the skin and the improvement of its elasticity and color. According to reviews, it is a relatively cheap way to restore skin firmness and reduce wrinkles.
People who use chemical peels in the form of mandelic acid often pay attention to the fact that this substance does not cause irritation, and the skin is smooth and fresh after it.
