All AEG washing machine errors – causes and repairs

AEG brand washing machines are an example of modern electronics for the home. This is not just a functional device, but a real “miracle of technology”.

These machines are equipped with a powerful electronic unit that recognizes the slightest malfunctions and failures in the systems and immediately displays fault codes on the scoreboard. Therefore, if you become the proud owner of an automatic machine of this brand, be sure that you will find out about the breakdown right away. The SMA self-diagnosis system will inform you about it.

Since the codes for this brand of CM are almost a hundred, it is difficult to remember what each of them means. To correctly recognize error codes, use our table.

Malfunction code Value Causes, signs and elimination E11 The AEG washing machine does not fill with water, which means that the tank has not been filled with enough water for the time allotted to it. The machine shows E11 on the display due to such failures:
  1. Breakdown of the filling valve or its control circuit on the module.
  2. Valve coil broken. When checked by a tester, a healthy element will show a value of 3,75 kOhm.
  3. Clogged water intake system. Weak water pressure in the water supply system.

E13 Code E13 indicates a water leak. Typically, leakage occurs in the CM sump. You need to check the machine for leaks. Errors E21-E24 washing machines AEG E21 The machine did not drain the waste water in 10 minutes. Causes:

  • The drain pump is broken.
  • The drain system is clogged.
  • The pump is broken. Using a tester, check the winding: if the pump is working, the indicator will be 170 ohms.
  • The module has failed.

E23 Code E23 appears when the control triac breaks down on the SMA control unit. To reset errors, check the indicated element for serviceability. If it fails, replace it. You may have to change the entire control unit. E24 Indicates a broken circuit between the control triac and the drain pump. What to do to fix the breakdown? First, check all sections of the circuit for serviceability. Carry out a visual inspection and check with a tester. Errors E31-E39, E3A machines AEG E31 Level sensor failure.

The frequency of the specified sensor has exceeded the allowed limits. It could also be a broken wire.

The solution to the problem is the following:

  • Sensor replacement.
  • Repair, insulation, replacement of electrical wiring.

E32 Pressure (level) sensor not calibrated.

What does E32 mean? After the initial calibration, the water level exceeds 0-66 millimeters and the anti-boil level is not reached.

To clear the error, do the following:

  • Ensure water supply by opening the water valve.
  • Replace water inlet valve.
  • Clean the filter.
  • Having unclenched the clamps with pliers, remove the sensor pipe and install a new one.
  • Replace pressure switch if broken.

E33 Error E33 indicates the inconsistent operation of a number of sensors:

  • pressure;
  • protection of the heater from switching on;
  • first level.

The code reports three reasons for this failure:

  1. Breakage of elements.
  2. Blockages in the nozzles of the level sensors. Blockage in the pressure chamber of these elements.
  3. The voltage in the network is more than the allowable limit. The heater is leaking to the housing. To check if the heating element penetrates the body, you will need a tester. In the buzzer mode, determine the breakdown: if it is present, the tester will “beep”.

E34

The coordinated work in the circuit of the pressure switch and the level of anti-boiling is broken.

If the E34 code has been on the display for 1 minute, then:

  • The sensor needs to be replaced.
  • Check the wiring going to the sensor and service it (replace, clean).
  • Replace the sensor tube by loosening the fastening clamps.

E35 Indicates that the tank is full of water.

When E35 is displayed on the display, this indicates that too much water has been poured. The level switch has been open for more than a quarter of a minute.

To localize the breakdown, check the pressure switch using a tester. If it fails, replace the sensor.

E36

The tubular heater protection level sensor (TENA) has broken.

Replace sensors. E37 At E37, most likely, there was a breakdown of the sensor of the first water level. E38 Pressure difference not fixed. Reason: blockage of the pipe. To eliminate error E38, you need to remove, clean or change the pipe. E39 Indicates a breakdown of the sensor that detects the overflow of water into the tank. The sensor needs to be replaced. E3A The code indicates a breakdown of the heating element relay. The relay needs to be replaced. AEG brand CMA codes from E41 to E45 E41 The closing of the hatch is not fixed. Close the door tighter to reset the error. It may be necessary to repair the guide, replace the handle or UBL. E42 Violation of the hatch lock. With E42, you need to check the device that blocks the hatch (UBL), and in case of a breakdown, replace it with a new one. E43 Code E43 indicates a failure of the UBL control triac. Replace triac. E44 Damage to the hatch door closing sensor. To remove error E44, replace the sensor with a working element. E45 It is possible to diagnose a breakdown of the elements in the circuit between the control triac and the door lock. It is necessary to check the circuit elements connecting the blocker to the control unit of the AEG washing machine. Fault codes E51-E59 AEG machines E51 The code indicates a short circuit of the triac of the electric motor. To remove the code, you need to check the triac and replace it in case of a breakdown. E52 The block controller does not receive signals from the tachogenerator of the electric motor. The probable cause of the E52 error is that the washer fixing the coil could break off from the tachogenerator housing. To eliminate the breakdown, a new sensor is required. E53 Motor triac control circuit broken. To eliminate error E53, a check of the circuit elements is required. E54 Code E54 indicates that one of the contact groups of the engine reverse relay is stuck. Checking and replacing the relay will solve the problem. E55 When there is an open in the electric motor circuit, code E55 occurs. To isolate the problem, check and replace:

  • wiring;
  • engine.

E56 There is no signal from the tachogenerator. The tachogenerator needs to be replaced. E57 The current has exceeded the threshold value of 15 Amps. How to fix the failure and error E57:

  1. Install a new engine.
  2. Repair wiring.
  3. Replace module.

E58 Occurs if the phase current of the electric motor exceeds the threshold value of 4,5 Amps. How to fix the failure and error E58:

  1. Install a new engine.
  2. Repair wiring.
  3. Replace module.

E59 No signal from the tachogenerator after a new rotation speed other than “0” has been set. Waiting period – 3 sec. How to troubleshoot:

  1. Install a new engine.
  2. Repair wiring.
  3. Replace module.
  4. Check the tachogenerator and replace with a new one.

Codes E5 (A, B, C, D, E, F) in AEG machines E5A Most likely, t of the cooling radiator has exceeded the threshold of 88 degrees. Check and replace the control unit. E5B The combination indicates a voltage drop in the DC bus below 175 V. To isolate the fault:

  • Replace controller.
  • Inspect and replace wiring.

E5C The code indicates that the voltage has exceeded 430 V in the DC bus. The reason is in the control unit. Need repair or replacement. E5D On error, FCV does not receive or send messages within 2 seconds. E5E A communication error has occurred between the FCV control unit and the main PCB. E5F The FCV is continuously requesting configuration parameters due to repeated resets. To localize the failure:

  • Check and replace the control unit.
  • Check, repair or replace wiring.

Code E61-E62 E61 During the heating process, the temperature parameters of the water do not reach the set values within the allotted time.

Important! The code cannot be seen in the normal operation of the AEG washing machine. It can only be determined during a diagnosis (service test).

You may need to check the heating element using a tester. The working heater will show a resistance of 20-40 ohms at room temperature.

E62

When heating water, the temperature mark exceeded 88 degrees in 5 minutes.

E62 talks about overheating.

If the AEG machine gives error 62, then the temperature sensor, the thermistor, could have failed. You can check its performance using a tester. Resistance at room temperature should be in the range of 5,7-6,3 kOhm.

It may be worth checking the heating element for the fact of a breakdown on the washing machine body (in the tester buzzer mode).

Errors E 66-68 E66 Failure of the relay of the tubular electric heater. It is required to check and replace the heater relay itself and its control circuits (located on the control unit). E68 Too high leakage current in the CMA. To eliminate the failure, replace the heating element or check the elements associated with it (temperature sensor, wires, etc.). E7 series codes (71, 74) in the AEG machine E71 The resistance of the thermal sensor has exceeded the allowable range. There are three likely causes for this failure:

  1. Open or short circuit of the thermistor or its circuits.
  2. Damage to the heater or sensor (they can pierce the case).

To find a solution to the problem, check the above details of the CM.

E74 The NTC temperature sensor in the tank has shifted. Check if the thermistor is correctly positioned. Codes E82-E85 in AEG washing machines E82 An error occurs when there is a failure in selecting the position of the program selector wheel. Possible failures:

  • Module failure.
  • Violation of the integrity of the wiring.
  • Breakdown of the selector itself.

It is necessary to check and replace broken elements.

E83

Data from the program selector is not read.

Important! Code E83 is not available in normal mode. It is only available in diagnostic mode.

The module needs to be replaced. E84 Failure to recognize the recirculation pump. With E84, the output voltage is always 0 or 5 V. E85

1. Breakdown of the recirculation pump.

2. Breakdown of the thyristor.

These parts need to be replaced. A series of errors E91-E99, E9A in AEG washers E91 A communication error has occurred between the main unit and the user interface. The problem is solved by replacing the control unit. E92 The E92 code indicates an inconsistency between the user interface and the main unit. E93 E 93 means a washer configuration error. To correct the failure, you must enter the correct configuration code. E94 E 94 means an error in the configuration of the washer and the program cycle. Rewriting the non-volatile memory of the control unit or replacing it is required. E95 With code E95, a communication error occurs in the circuit: processor-volatile memory (these elements are located on the controller). The following procedure is required:

  • Checking the circuit between the processor and the EEPROM chip.
  • Checking the power on the non-volatile memory chip.

E96 Mismatch between the configuration of the controller and other external elements. To remove the E96 code, verification of the specified configuration is required. E97 An inconsistency in the operation of the selector wheel with the software of the control unit has been detected. Causes of E97:

  • Configuration error.
  • Block breakage.

E98 Mismatch between the control element of the engine and the control unit. To localize the failure and error E98, you need:

  • Replace board
  • Replace wiring.

E99 An abnormal connection has been established between the sound unit and the input or output electronics of the AEG washing machine. The sound unit needs to be replaced and the wiring checked. E9A

Broken software between electronics and speaker.

With E9A, only the replacement of the electronic unit helps. A series of EA errors (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6). This series of errors is associated with a vulnerable element of the AEG washing machine system – DSP. Each DSP system failure has its own characteristic fault code. EA1 DSP system failure. Replacement will help: DSP, main unit, wires or drive belt. EA2

DSP is not recognized.

The main unit needs to be replaced. EA3

DSP does not fix the motor pulley.

Replacement will help: DSP, main unit, wires or drive belt. EA4 DSP failure. Replacement will help: DSP, main unit, wires. EA5 Breakdown of the thyristor DSP. The main unit needs to be replaced. EA6 In the first 30 seconds of operation, there is no signal that the drum has started to rotate. Replacing the drive belt or replacing the DSP will help. You can also check if the loading door is closed tightly. A series of EV errors (1, 2, 3, E, F). These errors are associated with a breakdown of the control module and with problems in the power supply. EB1 The power supply frequency is out of range. Power supply parameters need to be checked. EB2 The mains voltage has exceeded the possible limits. EB3 The mains voltage is below the allowable values. EBE Safety circuit relay failure. The control unit needs to be replaced. EBF Protective circuit not recognized. EU errors (1, 2) EC1 Fill valve lock CM. It will help to replace the elements:

  • water intake valve;
  • electronics;
  • wiring.

EC2 The operation of the water turbidity sensor is disrupted (if such is provided in the design of your AEG washing machine). The turbidity (water clarity) sensor needs to be replaced. A series of EF codes (1, 2, 3, 4, 5). The first three codes are associated with breakdowns in the AEG brand CM drain system. EF1 The system has detected blockages in the water drain filter or drain hose. Or the system has registered too long a drain of water from the tank. Required:

  1. Drainage system cleaning.
  2. Check or replace the pump.

EF2 The system has detected too much foam when draining or “too much” with the amount of powder. It may be due to clogging of the elements of the drain system. What to do:

  1. Clean the drain system (hose, filter; possibly nozzle and pump).
  2. Check or replace drain pump.
  3. Change the powder or its dosage (reduce).
  4. Select another washing program.

EF3 The Aqua Control system has been triggered. Also, a breakdown of the drain pump cable or a break in it is not ruled out. There may be a water leak. Replace:

  • pump;
  • pump cable.

EF4 The flow sensor does not transmit a signal when the water intake valves are operating. Perhaps the water supply valve is simply closed or the pressure in the water supply system is not high enough. EF5 Spinning interrupted. A large imbalance (more than 1,2 kg) was diagnosed.

How to fix a breakage: distribute the laundry, reduce its volume.

Run a test wash without laundry.

Breakdown codes of the EN series (1, 2, 3, E, F). Basically, these codes are on the display in case of failures in the electronics. EH1 Voltage frequency is out of range. There is interference in the mains, or the power supply is not very reliable. Or the unit needs to be replaced. EH2 Voltage too high. The power supply is not suitable for the operation of the SM. Electronics needs to be replaced. EH3 The voltage is low, the power supply is not suitable, there is interference in the network. EHE Protective circuit relay has failed.
