Vaccination for HPV is a form of disease prevention, incl. for cervical cancer, cancer of the vulva, and genital warts. Human papilloma vaccines are recommended for both women and men. However, it should be remembered that it does not completely protect against disease, so regular smear tests are necessary.

Experts from the Polish medical community, including the Polish Gynecological Society (PTG), recommend routine immunization of teenagers aged 11–12 against HPV, as well as immunization of older girls and women. The Polish Society for the Prevention of HPV Infections also recommends vaccinating boys who may be a potential source of HPV infection for their future partners.

Vaccination significantly reduces the risk of cervical cancer (by as much as 76 to 96 percent) and other virus-induced lesions, according to experts. The effectiveness of HPV vaccines over five years of follow-up in clinical trials was 100 percent.

After the weakened HPV is applied, the body’s immune system produces antibodies against it, and our body learns to respond to the infection. The vaccine provides the greatest protection if it is given before it becomes infected with any of the types of human papillomavirus that are affected by it.

Vaccination is a form of prophylaxis and prevention, but in everyday care for your own health, one should not forget about regular smear tests, thanks to which we can detect cervical cancer early enough.
The most effective protection against cervical cancer comes from a combination of structured Pap screening programs and HPV immunization.
Currently, HPV vaccines are on the list of recommended but not reimbursed vaccinations. Some local governments in various parts of Poland decided to finance vaccinations for school-age girls. Foundations are also involved in immunizing girls. You can also vaccinate privately. The cost of vaccination is about PLN 1200 for three doses.
The Polish Coalition to Fight Cervical Cancer has developed a comprehensive project of preventive measures. The introduction of the proposed solutions will make it possible to significantly reduce the dramatically high number of deaths due to cervical cancer in Poland.
