Alka-Prim

Alka-Prim is a non-steroidal over-the-counter medication used for mild to moderate pain. It soothes headaches, pain in muscles and teeth, its action also works in the case of high fever, viral infections and other diseases. It is in the form of effervescent tablets.

Alka-Prim – action

Alka-Prim is an anti-inflammatory and non-steroidal preparation that has a soothing effect on troublesome pain, and is antipyretic and anti-inflammatory. The preparation stops the aggregation of platelets.

Alka-Prim – application and dosage

Alka-Prim is intended for use in the case of pains of moderate intensity:

  1. muscle aches,
  2. headaches,
  3. temperature,
  4. cold,
  5. flu,
  6. viral infections.

Alka-Prim is in the form of effervescent tablets and is for oral use. Dissolve the preparation in 0,75 glasses of water. Remember not to exceed the recommended daily dose, as it may have a negative effect on your life or health.

Dosage:

  1. Adults 1-2 tablets 2-4 × / d, max. 3 g / d, (do not use more than 3 g a day),
  2. Youth after 12 years of age 1 tablet 2-3 × / d.

Alka-Prim and contraindications

Even if there are suggestions for taking Alka-Prim, unfortunately this is not always possible. There are difficulties in taking the drug.

  1. you are allergic to any ingredient of Alka-Prim or to other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,
  2. you suffer from stomach and duodenal ulcers,
  3. you have a blood clotting disorder,
  4. you have a deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase,
  5. you suffer from bronchial asthma,
  6. you have nasal polyps,
  7. you have a problem with kidney and liver failure,
  8. you struggle with heart failure,
  9. you’re pregnant,
  10. you are breastfeeding.

Do not give the drug to children under 12 years of age. Do not use in patients taking methotrexate in a dose> 15 mg / day.

Alka-Prim – When should you exercise extreme caution?

Selected anomalies and some circumstances may prevent the use of Alka-Prim. Sometimes it is necessary to consult a doctor and change the dosage of the preparation (if we use Alka-Prim simultaneously with other drugs). The leaflet contains a number of warnings related to the medicine.

Do not use for more than 3 days without consulting a doctor.

Do not use Alka Prim in patients:

  1. taking antidiabetic drugs from the sulfonylurea group,
  2. with impaired renal function and renal failure,
  3. suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus,
  4. struggling with liver failure (its work should be monitored).

Be careful when:

  1. vaginal haemorrhage,
  2. excessive bleeding during menstruation
  3. using a contraceptive IUD
  4. hypertension and heart failure,
  5. a planned surgery (stop taking the drug 5-7 days before).

During treatment with the preparation do not consume alcoholas the gastrointestinal mucosa may be damaged. Elderly patients should take the drug less frequently and in a lower dose. ATTENTION! It has been proven that drugs that inhibit cyclo-oxygenase (an enzyme involved in the synthesis of prostaglandins) can cause a problem with female fertility and ovulation disorders. This situation disappears after the end of therapy.

Alka-Prim and interaction with other drugs

The acetylsalicylic acid contained in Alka-Prim may increase various effects when combined with other substances:

  1. with anticoagulants (heparin, warfarin) – increases the anticoagulant effect,
  2. intensifies the toxic effect of valproic acid,
  3. intensifies the negative effect of methotrexate on the bone marrow (use with methotrexate at a dose of 15 mg per week is prohibited),
  4. glucocorticosteroids administered with acid increase the risk of peptic ulcer disease and gastrointestinal bleeding,
  5. intensifies the hypoglycaemic effect of drugs taken against diabetes,
  6. should not be used simultaneously with anti-gout drugs,
  7. acetylsalicylic acid enhances the effect of thrombolytic drugs,
  8. in combination with alcohol, it may increase gastrointestinal bleeding.

Omeprazole and ascorbic acid have no effect on the absorption of acetylsalicylic acid. Tell your doctor about all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter medications.

Alka-Prim and side effects

When using Alka-Prim effervescent tablets, a number of side effects may occur. However, it should be remembered that the benefits of taking the drug are usually greater than the negative effects that may arise. It may appear:

  1. indigestion, heartburn and a feeling of fullness in the upper stomach
  2. nausea, vomiting
  3. lack of appetite
  4. stomach pain,
  5. gastrointestinal haemorrhage,
  6. damage to the gastric mucosa,
  7. ulcer disease
  8. perforation, gastric ulceration (occurs in 15% of patients who take the preparation for a long time),
  9. focal necrosis of liver cells,
  10. sensitivity and enlargement of the liver (in patients with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatic fever or liver disease)
  11. transient increases in serum transaminases, alkaline phosphatase and bilirubin
  12. tinnitus (symptom of overdose) and hearing impairment
  13. dizziness,
  14. proteinuria, the presence of leukocytes and erythrocytes in the urine,
  15. renal papillary necrosis,
  16. interstitial nephritis,
  17. heart failure
  18. hypertension,
  19. thrombocytopenia,
  20. anemia due to gastrointestinal micro-bleeding,
  21. haemolytic anemia in patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency,
  22. leukopenia,
  23. agranulocytoza,
  24. eosinopenia,
  25. increased risk of haemorrhage and increase in haemorrhage time
  26. prolongation of prothrombin time,
  27. sensitization reactions: rash, shock, urticaria, angioedema, bronchospasm.
